Transmission Design Engineer – The Role

Working in the Transmission Design Group the successful candidate will undertake the scheming and detailing of drive chain components from the gear change ratios through to the differential and driveshafts. Items to be worked on could include front cover & shift actuators; lubrication system including oil pump, hoses & hardlines; clutch housing and release assembly, and in each of these areas the necessary associated jigs and assembly tools. Individuals should expect to be involved in reliability fault investigation and resolution for items they have been involved with, thereby, gaining feedback on their design choices. The Transmission Group is also responsible for Gearbox Dyno Testing Programmes, including the installations and design of specific test assemblies for race car prove-out.

At all times our team members are supported/coached by more experienced senior designers to enhance career development. Appropriate training (GD&T, CATIA Stress, etc.) will be given by outside consultants whilst on-going CATIA skills enhancement is provided by our on-site CAD coaches. Furthermore, there is the opportunity to gain direct experience of trackside operations via our weekend command centre volunteer rota.

Transmission Design Engineer – The Person

Candidate’s for this position must have:

  • A Mechanical Engineering Masters’ Degree or comparable qualification
  • 3-5 years’ post degree relevant design experience using CAD in high level motorsport
  • Experience aerospace materials and manufacturing techniques
  • An understanding of implications of car performance when considering design criteria
  • Ability to approach design tasks by application of engineering first principles

Candidates must be self-motivated, capable of working with minimal supervision and delivering high quality designs to crucial deadlines. They will be a team player and possess excellent communication skills.
