Job Description

Building the skills of key manufacturing personnel and assisting the HR Director with various talent management initiatives to enable our division to reach Full Potential. The role will be responsible for identifying, managing, sourcing, designing, developing, coordinating, and at times, conducting/facilitating training programs. Position is also responsible for managing the high school student learner, apprenticeship and rotational programs for the division.

Duties include communicating with management to identify training needs and mapping out development plans for certain manufacturing personnel, enabling Toolbox and safety training for all manufacturing/key office personnel, collaborating with external resources to source relevant skill building classes, developing a system and managing the talent pipeline for our Skilled Trades roles and working with HRD and Ops Leaders on a variety of talent management initiatives.

Essential Functions/Responsibilities:

  • Conduct division-wide training needs assessment and identify skills or knowledge gaps that need to be addressed for our skilled trades pipeline. Position is responsible for Technical Training needs of the division.
  • Assist other departments with coordinating the Tester Training program through FVTC.
  • Provide consultation and map out annual training plans and schedules for skilled manufacturing roles, Toolbox training plan for general manufacturing personnel, Safety training
  • Designs programs employing a blended learning approach that appropriately combines the right technology assisted learning strategies with classroom facilitated learning experiences or other methods (OJT, Mentoring, classroom, simulated). Training can be outsourced or in-house.
  • Market training opportunities and look for hi potential skilled labor candidates throughout Miller Electric, organize job fairs as appropriate for internal employees, etc.
  • Work with local Tech College credits to source relevant skill building training for our skilled labor personnel, line leads and PC’s
  • Use known education principles and stay updated on new training methods and techniques
  • Design, prepare and order educational aids and materials. Assess instructional effectiveness and determine the impact of training on employee skills and KPIs
  • Maintain updated curriculum database and training records
  • Host train-the-trainer sessions for internal subject matter experts
  • Partner with HR Mgr on the youth and apprenticeship programs which keeps the skilled pipelines full
  • Utilize company LMS and web delivery tools as required/appropriate for training and record keeping purposes
  • Experience with various training methods, including on-the-job coaching, mentorship programs and e-learning. Experience with different projects, like management training and soft-skills development, is also essential.
  • Ability to devise and create engaging ways to train employees

Key Relationships:

  • Builds relationships with HR and Division Leadership
  • Builds a network of subject matter experts for consultation on training content development
  • Builds relationships with appropriate schools/institutions we may partner with for development purposes
  • Work one on one with specific high potential skilled manufacturing personnel to ensure their advancement in the pipeline

Qualifications

Education & Experience Required 

  • BBA/BA degree in areas of business, with emphasis in technical education methodology or related experience
  • Experience in the use of various computer based learning software, including the use of a computer training authoring system
  • Hands-on experience coordinating multiple training events
  • Knowledge of instructional design theory and implementation
  • Proven ability to complete full training cycle (assess needs, plan, develop, coordinate, monitor and evaluate)
  • Familiarity with traditional and modern job training methods and techniques
  • Share Point utilization for upload and download of instructor training materials
  • Presentation and/or teaching experience with effective oral and written communication skills
  • Demonstrated media and web software knowledge and all desktop computer processes
  • Effective knowledge of Microsoft applications primarily Power Point development
  • Utilization and application of the operational principles of a Learning Management System
  • Principles of adult learning and classroom instruction techniques
  • Utilization of personal learning technologies such as smart phones, internet learning devices, etc.
  • Blended learning and training techniques utilizing e-learning and hands-on experience.
  • Face-to-face training and classroom presentation and facilitation techniques
  • Verification of learning through appropriate testing and scoring

Preferred Experience

  • Proven work experience as a Training Coordinator, Trainer, Training Facilitator or similar role
  • Advanced knowledge of ITW Toolbox methods and/or Lean certification
  • Multi-language ability in one or more of these languages: Spanish, French, Portuguese, or Hmong
