Technical Project Leader

SUMMARY

The Technical Project Leader represents R&D within the Core Team and is responsible for the successful execution of all tasks of product development, design and testing within the scope of the time, quality and cost objectives, which have been agreed with the PM. The TPL is the first contact person to the Customer project for technical topics.

CORE RESPONSIBILITIES

Project Tasks

  • Coordination of project tasks between mechanical, electrical, software, test disciplines.
  • Act as Technical contact and represents R&D within the project core team and is responsible for the successful completion of all engineering tasks relating to product development, design and testing within the scope of the time, quality, manufacturability and cost objectives.
  • Quote, drive and manage customer change requests.
  • Consolidates and monitors defined project budgets for R&D disciplines - including status of R&D cost and BOM cost.
  • Consolidates and monitors the overall project schedule for R&D disciplines – including the coordination of adjustments in technical approach or negotiating scope of activities to meet the overall project timeline.
  • Drives gate and / or technical release activities of the product with PM.
  • Drives resolution of technical problems and failure analysis as they cross over disciplines.

Documentation

  • Documents customer requirements and drives technical design, development, integration, and testing of the project in collaboration with PM.
  • Coordinates and carries out (R&D) project and milestone reporting in accordance with the PLC.
  • Shares knowledge and expertise internally through technical reports and papers; presents internally outside of own team.

Innovation

  • Ensure project’s intellectual property is properly documented through disclosure process in a timely manner.
  • Collaborate with PM on project business case for cost reduction activities.
  • Follows emerging technologies and trends in functional area.
  • Contributes to major technical solutions for products or manufacturing (technology & business) processes.

Employee Development

  • Actively mentor and make recommendations to department manager on training and development to ensure high level of skill set on project team.
  • Provide input regarding employee dialogues, HRD conferences and goal setting.
  • Ensure effective and efficient use of resources to maximize results and meet project timelines.
  • In addition, candidates must possess a good technical base in at least three of the following groups:
  • Circuit design, mechanics, validation, and optimization.
  • Embedded Software design, implementation and validation.
  • Bluetooth system operation, circuit & software design, validation, implementation, and certification

Vehicle communication busses.
Cellular systems and baseband design/implementation, validation, optimization, and certification.

Qualifications

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering.
  • 5+ years of engineering product development experience.
  • 5+ years of experience in automotive design.
  • Knowledge and understanding of engineering techniques, scientific theory and principles.
  • Proficient Engineering Principles (i.e. problem solving techniques, worst case analysis, failure analysis, etc.).
  • Technical program management.
  • Ability to identify and apply appropriate engineering techniques.
  • Understanding of electrical/software/mechanical design process and techniques.
  • Electronic module manufacturing process.
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal and organizational abilities.
  • Highly motivated and self-driven, ability to work with minimal supervision.
  • Understanding of business financials (i.e. budget management, return on investment, etc.)
  • Demonstrated ability to lead individuals and teams without direct authority.
