Systems Technician

Position Description:

The Systems Technician is a member of the Powertrain Test Group, which is part of the Powertrain Manufacturing Operations. 

  • He/she will support the development, implementation and application of Tesla internal test and validation plans and methods for various automotive systems and components.  
  • The ideal candidate has a proven record of success in the setup and conduction/monitoring of component or system level tests in an automotive engineering/manufacturing environment.
  • He/she must have a broad technical background with the ability to work with engineering, manufacturing and quality personnel across a wide variety of tasks.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills are a requirement to establish effective working relationships within Tesla.

Essential Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Provide daily production and maintenance support in troubleshooting test system issues.
  • Build/assemble and setup test/validation equipment and fixtures.
  • Modification of existing or fabrication of new equipment and fixtures as required.
  • Install electrical, hydraulic, pneumatic circuitry and controls or data circuits.
  • Installation and use of data acquisition equipment and other instrumentation.
  • Maintain test/validation equipment.

Qualifications/Skills:

  • Associates Degree in Engineering or Automotive Technology from an accredited institution or Automotive OEM Test Technician Training or equivalent in experience and evidence of exceptional ability.
  • 5+ years of experience working in an engineering development environment.
  • 3+ years of experience in a Test Technician Role.
  • Analytical problem solving skills.
  • Familiar with Automated test Equipment (ATE) such as AC/DC power supplies, Hipot Meter, Agilent DAQ/DMM, NI-cDAQ (analog and digital signal).
  • Familiar with LabVIEW/Teststand and MySQL database.
  • Able to understand schematic, mechanical drawing.
  • Good understanding of RS232 or GPIB communication.
  • Experience with a variety of test validation methods.
  • Experience in the use of a broad variety of test, control and data acquisition equipment and software (i.e. Lab View, MatLab).
  • Experience maintaining test logs and documentation.
  • Able to work well under pressure while managing competing demands and tight deadlines.

  • Maintain flexibility and adaptability to changing priorities and assignments, coping with rapidly changing information.
  • Work efficiently and productively in independent and team settings.

  • Experience with common MS office programs (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
