Software Engineering Manager

JOB SUMMARY:

Polaris, aglobal powersports leader in off-road vehicles, motorcycles and snowmobiles, islooking for an experienced and passionate manager for our Mobile App, WebPortal, and Cloud Software Development teams. This is an exciting role leadingthe team building Ride Command, our world class connected rider solution. Itrequires leadership skills, business & technical acumen, and the ability toeffectively execute projects. You will have the ability and empowerment to makechanges and move quickly, directly impacting cloud initiatives, mobileapplications, trail mapping and other development projects at Polaris.

The idealcandidate is an articulate and organized hands-on leader by example, who iseffective in a fast-paced Agile Development environment, can shepherddevelopment processes, mentor and supervise software engineers at all levels,and collaborate across teams within the company. Interest in powersports is aplus, as there are many opportunities to ride!

Responsibilitiesinclude balancing multiple project priorities within a portfolio ofinitiatives, managing resources and schedule, working closely with ProductOwners and Polaris vehicle teams, and enabling the passionate and highlyskilled engineering talent of the Ride Command team to do their best work.

 

ESSENTIALDUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Mentorstrong teams of mobile, web and cloud engineers (about 14 employees).
  • Manageresource allocation within and across teams.
  • Measureeach teams' and each individual developer’s productivity, track and provideupdates with recommendations for improvement, eliminating bottlenecks, etc.
  • Interview,hire, and recommend for team expansion and growth, including full timeemployees and contractors.
  • Establishand track software development, testing and implementation plans.
  • Manageproject tasks, timelines, plans, and resources.
  • Maintainproject plans and project tracking systems.
  • Workclosely with the Ride Command Product Owners to develop rolling schedules basedon two-week sprints and to provide estimates to assist in long-rangefeature/schedule planning.
  • Leadfeature execution for the app & portal development teams based on theproduct plan as laid out by the Ride Command Product Owners.
  • Determineand manage the promotion of tested product from development to productionenvironments.
  • Trackand lead team alignment within the Ride Command budget, maintain monthlyrecords, invoice tracking and approval, planned expenditures and suggestedreductions when necessary. Work with Finance to develop and ensure Quarterlyforecasts are accurate and achieved.
  • Managevendor contract compliance for Ride Command.
  • Driveindividual and team training, productivity and process improvements using Scrumdevelopment, LEAN practices, and external training resources.
  • Overallresponsibility for ensuring quality throughout the project lifecycle
  • Preparemonthly budget submissions, reports and presentations.

 

SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE & EDUCATION:

  • Bachelor'sdegree in Computer Science, MIS, Business or equivalent technical degreerequired.
  • 8+years of experience managing a software team of 8 or more engineers required.
  • Trackrecord of successful on-time shipping of software using an Agile developmentmodel.
  • Experience in project planning, scheduling, and resource management.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to apply understanding of existing and emerging technology to ownership & riding tools strategies.
  • Strong professional development and team building skills.
