Simulator Engineer

Purpose of the Role:

 

To assist in the operation, maintenance and development of the Driver-In-The-Loop (DIL) simulator.

 

Role Dimensions:

 

The role sits within the Simulator and Simulation Projects Team, on the Simulator Development Side, which is overseen by the Simulator Development Project Leader. The role requires working closely with the Vehicle Performance Applications team, and collaboration with the other teams in Vehicle Performance, as well as Racing Technology and Race Engineering. The work is a mixture of regular operations and one-off projects.

 

Principal Accountabilities:

 

  • Preparation of the DIL simulator to support the test programme.
  • Operating the simulator rig during testing.
  • Actioning and co-ordinating the simulator hardware service/maintenance schedule.
  • Logging and reporting of faults and working with the Simulator Development Project Leader to resolve such faults.
  • Maintenance and development of the simulator software code base.

Job requirements

Knowledge, Skills and Experience:

 

Essential

  • Strong academic background with an MEng in Mechanical or Control Engineering or related discipline (2:1 or above).
  • Practical experience of the maintenance of mechanical systems.
  • Familiarity with the one or more of the following coding languages: C, C++, Matlab, Python.
  • Ability to work to deadlines on a variety of timescales and balance your workload between different projects.
  • Ability to clearly and concisely communicate technical information.

Desirable

  • Experience of working with DIL simulators and/or other mechatronic systems incorporating electrical servomotors, motion platforms and real time systems (dSpace, xPC, etc.).
  • Experience of working with real-time hardware interfaces (e.g. NI / Beckhoff TwinCAT / dSpace).
  • Practical experience of building and/or maintaining electrical systems and/or circuit design.
  • Industrial or research experience of vehicle dynamics, control systems, signal processing.
