Hendrick Motorsports, a leading NASCAR Motorsports operation, is currently seeking a highly motivated Simulation Engineer. The Simulation Engineer is responsible for vehicle and subsystem modeling, correlating models with applicable test data, assisting with incorporating the models into simulation software, and maintenance and support of simulation software. The candidate should be an experienced engineer with the ability to work in a collaborative environment, developing and validating simulation software to improve overall vehicle performance on the track. Also, this engineer should have substantial knowledge of vehicles and vehicle subsystems, vehicle dynamics, tire performance and modeling.
Experience applying Dymola to study vehicle performance, machine learning, game theory or other advanced analytics on time-series data would make a candidate very attractive.
About the Job:
- Utilize simulation software to develop vehicle models and validate models against lab and track test data
- Develop and validate dynamic simulation
- Incorporate existing tire and aerodynamic models
- Develop test plans and use Kinematic and Compliance, push-up, and 7-post test rigs and other data sources to validate test data
- Responsible for assisting with vehicle modeling development and model correlation with applicable test data
- Apply data analysis acumen and use it to create value to the team
- Interact with internal customers on a regular basis, both to sell new ideas and elicit feedback on existing ones
- Develop and write computer programs to store, locate, and retrieve specific documents, data, and information
- Assist with assigned miscellaneous projects
About You:
- Excellent computer skills
- Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills
- Strong background in applying probability and statistics to real data, as well as defining problems and evaluating the effectiveness of different techniques in solving these problems
- Demonstrate mastery of managing large data sets and quickly prototyping solutions that work on moderately large data-sets in a clear and interactive manner
- An understanding of algorithms, operating systems and modern server hardware is a plus
- Ability to use thinking and reasoning to solve a problem
- Ability to encourage others to seek opportunities for different and innovative approaches to addressing problems and opportunities

Eligibility Requirements:
- Bachelor’s Degree (four-year college or technical school): Required. Mechanical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Software Engineering, Computer Science or a related degree preferred
- Racing experience and/or automotive OE experience
- Minimum 2 years vehicle simulation and/or vehicle dynamics experience
- Advanced computer skills. Experience with Engineering software, such as MATLAB, Simulink, ADAMS, Dymola, multibody simulation or similar software preferred
- Experience in the following programming languages C, C++, C#, .NET, Python, VB or similar programming languages
- Proficient use of all Microsoft Office products, specifically MS Word and Excel
- Analytical and problem-solving mindset
- Strong attention to detail, excellent communication skills, flexible work schedule and strong understanding of vehicle dynamics and race related performance engineering principles required
- Self-motivation and the ability to work in a fast-paced, delivery-focused environment
