Senior Technical Data Analyst

Job Summary

 International Speedway Corporation is seeking an experienced and highly motivated Senior Technical Data Analyst to join the Information Technology team. This analyst will partner closely with other data analysts, BI Developers, and business leaders to design and implement data models, database schemas, data structures and processing logics to support various data science, analytics and BI workflows. They will turn data into information, information into insight and insight into powerful business decisions. For this person to be successful, we are not only looking for a person that has experience and subject matter expertise, but also someone that is highly collaborative, innovative and versatile with the ability to effectively building strong partnerships.   

Principal Responsibilities:

  • Handle data extractions from multiple data sources and analyze large volumes of data, parse data sets and build custom data queries
  • Build custom data marts that consolidate data from multiple sources in support of advanced statistical work, including advanced regression analysis and predictive analytics
  • Ability to perform ETL relying on sound approaches to data handling and cleaning, (missing values, automation, etc.); experience with ListCleaner, Data Pilot, Excel Add, etc.
  • Recommends/sets data standards to improve quality of data and speed to analytics, reporting and execution
  • Creates complex models and applications for acquisition, processing and management of massive quantities of data using high-level programming languages

Preferred Skills:

  • 5+ years of experience in designing, building and maintaining logical data models and data structures associated with relations and non-relational databases, data warehouses, and other data stores; experience with SQL, MySQL, Oracle, Vertica, Exodata, Toad 
  • Experience with distributed processing of large data sets utilizing frameworks such as Hadoop, Hive, Spark
  • Strong understanding of advanced statistical methodologies, including advanced regression analysis, predictive analytics, and machine learning; experience with R, Matlab
  • Proficiency with automation/scripting tools including Python, Ruby and Julia 
  • Experience with Modeling tools including Erwin, SQL Power, Rational Rose
  • Experience with business intelligence software such as SAS, JMP/JMP Pro, Business Objects, Qlikview, Tableau
  • Working experience in Database marketing or event entertainment marketing data is preferred
  • Solid problem solving abilities with a focus on high impact business opportunities

Responsibilities:

  • Create, document and maintain conceptual, logical and physical data models for medium to high complexity projects
  • Reverse engineer source system data structures for model souring
  • Lead definition, communication and governance of the data modeling strategies
  • Convert logical data models into the first cut physical database models and coordinate generation of DDL with assistance of DBAs
  • Conduct model reviews with project team members
  • Work with IT application staff to define source-to-target mappings
  • Facilitate collection and documentation of the source-to-target transformation and business rules
  • Provide project estimations support
  • Select appropriate data modeling technique
  • Create high-level scoping models that facilitate a cross-system view of data requirements for large and/or complex projects
  • Lead diverse individuals to come to an agreement about the definition, representation, sourcing and delivery of data
  • Participate in data architecture sessions and promote integrated systems and controlled data redundancy
  • Determine data needs of the enterprise as well as the data needs of the project
  • Assist in identification of data integrity problems and recommend solutions

  Education 

Master’s degree preferred (or Bachelor’s degree) in one of the following: Information Technology, Computer Science, Management Information Systems, Applied Mathematics, Predictive Analytics, Statistics, Economics or similar field & experience required
