Senior Project Engineer - McLaren Special Operations

McLaren Special Operations (MSO) is a division of McLaren Automotive, responsible for the design, development and delivery of personalised and bespoke vehicle commissions, performance details and options, as well as overseeing and ensuring McLaren legacy vehicles remain road worthy and up to date.  MSO products and services represent world class McLaren offerings and in doing so provides McLaren owners with virtually limitless possibilities to tailor a car exactly to their needs and tastes.

Our customers demand a world class product, to ensure we exceed our customers’ expectations, we are looking for a Senior Project Engineer to join our Vehicle Engineering team and take ownership on a range of MSO products.   

Purpose of the role:

As Senior Project Engineer, you will be responsible for managing all aspects of the delivery of components and systems under your remit for multiple MSO Programmes.

You will also be responsible for building strong cross functional relationship within the engineering team but also across  Operations, Sales & Marketing and main business Engineering departments.

Principal accountabilities:

  • Manage all aspects of your parts for delivery to MSO programs
  • Own technical project management & engineering of interior modules within a specialised & dedicated team
  • Management of component and system level delivery at each project milestones
  • Project Management in accordance with the MSO Development Process
  • Management of key suppliers and the supplier relationship for accountable components
  • Identification of opportunities to increase the MSO portfolio of products
  • Manage and deliver bill of materials costs, investment and weight for responsible component and system set
  • Manage and deliver, Technical Specifications, DFMEA, Engineering statements of work, engineering release, concerns resolution and DVP
  • Supplier Delivery – Manage each supplier with a cross functional team of Design, SQA, Quality Engineering, Logistics, Purchasing, Dimensional Management, Manufacturing and Service personnel to ensure complete PPAP is delivered for every component to support program timing
  • Lead & Mentor other members of the team, play a key role is growth and up skilling of the department

Knowledge, skills & experience:

  • Strong technical project management with proven evidence of decision making.
  • Previous experience of OEM or tier one component and system management with a demonstrable record of delivery of the accountabilities.
  • Proven leadership of design and cross-functional non-reporting teams.
  • Excellent commercial awareness to maintain a focus on cost, profit, quality and risk.
  • A strong track record of delivering designs to timing, weight and cost targets.
  • Supplier management, comfortable with understanding and implementing DFM requirements within the project scope.
  • Mechanical or Automotive Engineering Degree or equivalent.
  • Background in low volume, high performance sports or racing cars preferred.
  • CATIA V5 2D/3D skills desirable but not essential.
