Senior Manager, Engine Development

TRD is looking for a highly motivated and experienced Senior Manager, Engine Development.

The Senior Manager, Engine Development is responsible for managing the Engine Development group in areas of engine performance and durability development of Toyota racing engines in a constantly changing environment. This person will work in close consultation with the Engine Design group to ensure visions are aligned, work cross-functionally on annual engine testing planning and rotation strategy.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Manage performance & development build and test planning, including valvetrain test rig in a high stress, fast-paced environment.

  • Leverage cross-function relationships and determine when new engine specs are introduced into races to schedule parts with the Design, Dyno, and Procurement Planning departments.

  • Oversee the engineering team focusing on all areas of engine development (software, fuel circuit, exhaust, oil development, torsion, vibration, etc.

Qualifications:

A successful candidate will have:

  • BS in Mechanical Engineering or other related field.
  • Strong race engine and vehicle development experience (including basic engine layout design, valvetrain design, reciprocating/rotating component design, casing/casting design, ancillary and car installation design)
  • Strong organizational skills which includes managing projects related to TRD and team activities, and skilled technical staff performing detailed tasks in a demanding engineering environment.
  • Strong race engine development experience (including typical strategies for measuring and improving thermal efficiency, combustion efficiency, mechanical efficiency and volumetric efficiency)
  • Direct experience with typical race engine component manufacturing process, troubleshooting race engine issues and failures.
  • Direct experience with race engine installation design/development and evaluating used race engine components.
  • Direct experience with budget preparation and expense control methods.
  • Manage and motivate associates to thinking creatively and take on risk to be able to learn from mistakes, in an environment where success is achieved by constantly trying new ideas. Mentor engineers and guide in thinking through new ideas.

A preferred candidate may have:• At least 10 years of engine development in high level automotive racing.• A strong understanding of race engine performance development.o Thermodynamicso Gas exchangeo Combustion Analysiso Mappingo Mechanical performance and durability• At least 5 years of engine management software function and tuning experience.• Previous experience in supervision of race engine development engineers• Engine development planning/organizationo Development engine specificationo Development engine build planningo Development engine dyno testing scheduling• Proficient experience with Excel, Word• Working knowledge of Power Point• Strong knowledge of an engine management software (McLaren)• Strong experience with AVL Concerto
