Duties / Responsibilities (Including Objectives of the role):

This is an exciting opportunity to join the thermal systems engineering group, to develop cooling, thermal and HVAC systems for both new Lotus product and third party engineering projects.

Purpose of role:

Working on new Lotus Projects, you will deliver vehicle test and development activities as required to achieve Lotus targets for HVAC, thermal performance and functionality.

Hands on test and development of thermal systems of future vehicles to include:

  • Vehicle / rig preparation and instrumentation
  • Thermal simulation support and correlation activities
  • Whole vehicle testing including in market and climatic wind tunnel testing
  • Rig design support, build and testing
  • Reporting and presentation of findings to design, project and management teams
  • Liaise with and control offsite test activities both remotely and in person

Qualifications and Experience (Essential & Desirable criteria)

Essential:

  • Mechanical or Automotive Engineering Degree
  • Working knowledge of all aspects of vehicle engineering
  • Strong diagnostic skills and understanding of engineering first principles
  • Experience of whole vehicle level cooling / thermal / HVAC system testing and be able to manage and organise offsite test activities
  • Instrumentation experience including CAN, LIN and ethernet based logging systems
  • Previous experience of data correlation with 1D and 3D simulation software programs
  • Be able to design and support the build of cooling system and HVAC test rigs
  • Proving ground driving experience including high speed / Vmax testing
  • HVAC systems development and climatic control system development and calibration
  • Must be able to work in extreme environmental temperatures +55C to -30C ambient
  • Must be able to analyse date including thermal and phase cycles, heat transfer and dissipation models and communicate results to project teams and report on test findings via both summary and formal reports.
  • Smart team and CAD experience desirable
  • HEV / BEV experience desirable
