Senior Designer/Principal Engineer

Reports to: Chief Engineer 
Location: 920 Engineering 
Date: July 2019 

Scope
A senior member of the engineering design team, taking new projects through the concept and design stage to production, working closely with prototype machining, development and production engineers as appropriate, whilst helping to decide the direction of both the department and product range. While the main product range encompasses braking products for road and competition vehicles, there is also potential to become involved in other areas of vehicle design. Involvement with customers and external suppliers is expected. 

Key Duties and Responsibilities

  • Design of new products using SolidWorks CAD software and FEA package 
  • Use and development of various calculation tools used in the creation of specifications for new installations 
  • Investigation and implementation of requests for change to existing products 
  • Use of advanced CAE tools such as CFD and Structural Optimisation software may be needed for some work; training will be given as required 
  • Liaison with, and creation of information for customer and production 
  • Keeping current with vehicle legislation with respect to vehicle braking and associated systems 
  • Assisting in the running of the Engineering Department, including supervising junior members of the design team.

  • A skilled user of CAD, with a good understanding of FEA – knowledge of the SolidWorks package would be beneficial

  • Able to integrate into and work as a key member of a small engineering team 
  • Skilled at time and project management 
  • Focused, diligent and reliable. 

Aptitude- Desirable Characteristics

  • Practical experience of light vehicle brake and/or clutch systems. 
  • The ability to apply a Motorsport ethos. 
  • A genuine interest and basic understanding of motor vehicle engineering 
  • A full driving licence would be an advantage. 

Minimum Qualifications and Experience:
Engineering based qualification and experience either Automotive/ Motorsport/ Engineering degree or apprentice trained with a HND/HNC in engineering. 

Location: The role will be primarily located at 920 Engineering in Leamington Spa.
