Senior Aerodynamics Engineer

As we begin this exciting journey we are looking for a Senior Aerodynamics Engineer to join our Motorsport function and help deliver our future championship winning GT cars.  

Purpose of the role:

The Senior Aerodynamics Engineer will responsible for delivering Aerodynamic solutions across McLaren Motorsports expanding capacity whilst supporting you line manager with the fulfilment of the departments delivery structure and providing information on potential technologies that can transfer into the main Automotive business.     

Principal accountabilities:

  • Utilisation of proper combination of CAD and CFD to meet programme targets for aerodynamics, powertrain cooling & air-feeding, brake cooling, systems cooling and internal ventilation
  • Attending and contributing to wind-tunnel testing if required
  • Communicate progress and criticalities to your line-Manager
  • Support with the continual development of Vehicle Aero-technologies to increase the level of cross-function/attribute integration
  • Support developing relationships with academia, software and hardware suppliers and key consultancies
  • Application of continuous improvement methods, to support the development of our calculation methodologies and design tool correlation, to aid concurrent engineering of our highly-integrated road cars. 

Knowledge, skills & experience:

  • Experience in GT and/or formula racing-cars aerodynamics is highly desirable or extensive direct OEM experience from the Automotive industry
  • Excellent knowledge and understanding in external/internal aerodynamics and heat-transfer fundamentals of vehicles
  • Specific knowledge in the following fields is also highly desireable:
    • Internal / external aerodynamic design & optimisation for racing cars
    • CFD tool, methodology and utilisation
    • CAD tool usage, mainly for aero surfacing
    • CFD / WT / Track correlation assessment
    • Powertrain, systems, brakes and ventilation aero-requirements
    • Model-scale & full-scale wind-tunnel testing
    • 1D systems modelling of cooling circuits: AMESim, GT Power, MATLAB/Simulink
