Reporting to the head of aerodynamic science, this is a critical role to improve the way we develop the car aerodynamically. Working closely with the aerodynamic development group, you will improve our understanding of the race car aerodynamics across all environments (CFD, WT and track) in order to optimise the development approach and maximise the longer term aerodynamic performance of the race car.
Key operational duties:
• Tracking progress to ensure we understand our development and to validate our aerodynamic objectives
• Developing metrics and analyses to improve the understanding gained from development testing and to accelerate our development rate
• Developing strategies around part selection for optimum performance
• Working with development aerodynamicists and the technology group to specify the tools and technologies we need to increase our development rate
• Implementing validation programmes
Ideal Credentials:
• Excellent physical understanding of aerodynamic fundamentals
• Understanding of CFD & WT techniques & limitations
• Demonstrable interest in understanding the bigger picture (e.g. in-depth analysis of results, correlation investigations, novel use of data, non-standard models/tests)
• Willingness to challenge current methods and theories
• Teamworking skills to get buy-in and foster information exchange around the department
• Ability to implement proof of concept tools with basic programming skills
• Some knowledge of data science techniques would be beneficial
