Senior Aerodynamicist

Scuderia AlphaTauri has an exciting opportunity to join our Aerodynamics department in Bicester (UK) as a Senior Aerodynamicist. Working in one of our development teams, the role will involve all aspects of aerodynamic development including concept definition, testing and analysis of experimental and numerical simulations. You will also be involved in developing innovative thinking, tools and processes and will be required to mentor less experienced aerodynamicists.

Aerodynamic Development

Work with the team leader and deputy team leader to develop innovative aerodynamic concepts.

Create new geometries using CAD.

Submit geometries to test in both WT and CFD and manage the process.

Analyse results from CFD and wind tunnel and recommend track test of performant geometrie

Wind Tunnel Testing

Define, specify and manage effective and efficient wind tunnel tests.

Conduct wind tunnel testing (some shift work will be required).

Mentoring

Oversee the work of aerodynamicists and junior aerodynamicists within their group. Advise and mentor them to improve their skills set.

Innovation

Suggest, investigate, (and where applicable) implement new methods and processes to improve efficiency of aerodynamic ideas generation, design, testing, analysis and reporting.

Communication and Relationship

Maintain and develop good relationships with aero performance group, aerodynamics development group leaders and senior aero management.

Communicate effectively with other groups such as model design, model shop, aero technology group, CFD group, aero production and wind tunnel systems group.

To work in a professional manner at all times regardless of the task set and be pro-active in promoting a positive image for the department / team/ sponsors

Experience

Your areas of knowledge and expertise

that matter most for this role:

  • At least 3 to 4 years’ experience in F1 aerodynamics development.
  • Strong, broad understanding of aerodynamics to degree level or above.
  • A strong technical understanding of CFD and wind tunnel test techniques
  • Experience of running WT testing programs
  • Proficient computer skills including CFD and 3D CAD software.
  • Initiative and Innovation
  • Team-player attitude and the ability to work under pressure and with minimal supervision
  • The capacity to lead a project, solve complex problems and achieve performance targets within strict deadlines
  • Exceptional communication and organisational skills
  • Master degree in STEM / Aerospace Engineering
  • Fluency in English
  • Travel 0-10%
