Safety Patrol

Description

For more than 70 years, the Safety Patrol has grown to become an iconic part of Indianapolis Motor Speedway history.  This team is responsible for essential event operations that span our 988 acre facility, and help us deliver some of the most exciting events in the world.  Whether you are interested in working at the gates, in the stands or garages, directing traffic or assisting in suites, each role is crucial to success and enhances the guest experience of thousands of race-fans.   

Seasonal positions start at $8/hour (bonuses paid to qualifying Traffic positions), with a typical work day being 8-12 hours with breaks. 

Application process includes a background check and interview.   All applicants should have a strong desire to serve race-fans and represent the IMS brand. Key qualifications include: dependability, flexibility and exceptional customer service. 

Primary events in 2018:

  • INDYCAR Grand Prix: 5/11-5/12
  • 102nd Running of the Indianapolis 500: 5/15-5/27
  • SVRA: 6/13-6/17
  • LPGA 8/13-8/18
  • Brickyard 400: 9/7-9/9
  • Red Bull Air Race: 10/5-10/7

Event day hours vary, with major event day hours ranging from 6am-6pm. Indy 500 Race day hours begin as early as 4am.

The Safety Patrol operates 5 key areas at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway. Applicants will be placed in one of the following areas for the season:

  • STANDS & MOUNDS: Provide hospitality and customer service to guests while verifying tickets.
  • GARAGE & PITS: Verify credentials in garage, pit and media center locations. Provide hospitality in Plaza area. Provide security on Pit Lane, in Garages, and track access points.
  • TRAFFIC: Direct and park all infield, employee, and credentialed vehicular traffic.
  • GATES: Greet each guest upon their arrival and verify each guest’s ticket; check bags and coolers.
  • SUITES & HOSPITALITY: Verify all tickets and credentials at suites; provide customer service to all hospitality guests.
