Safety Engineer

Aurora works at the intersection of rigorous engineering and applied machine learning to address one of the most challenging, important, and interesting opportunities of our generation: transforming the way people and goods move.

Founded by three of the world’s leaders of the self-driving vehicle industry, we design the software and hardware that will power the next revolution in transportation.  We partner with others as we believe this allows us to move more quickly than any one company can move alone.

Aurora’s Safety Engineers define, develop and tailor the safety processes, safety requirements and validation techniques to ensure the safety of Aurora-powered vehicles around the world. In this role, you will work closely with our founders, partners, suppliers, and other engineers to safely integrate state of the art hardware and software systems into the next generation vehicles these will power.

Multidisciplinary engineering fundamentals are essential, and a strong understanding of safety engineering fundamentals is also necessary. Available industry safety standards and techniques provide a good starting point for the development of highly automated vehicles, but it will be necessary to advance the state of the art in terms of automotive system safety. In this role you will be expected to help advance the state of the art through the development and implementation of new safety techniques.

Familiarity and experience with design, and safety standards in the automotive or robotics space is strongly preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Architect and define new safety techniques and processes.
  • Develop safety requirements and corresponding validation techniques.
  • Work with automotive partners to tailor safety concepts to their specific needs.
  • Work with hardware and software engineering teams to develop achievable safety requirements, and ensure that they are met.
  • Develop and document detailed test plans for ensuring safety requirements are met
