Resident Systems Engineer

Main Purpose of Position:

Cosworth - A leader in the development of motorsport and automotive data acquisition and video recording systems is looking to recruit a Resident System Engineer to work with our Automotive Customers in the Detroit area.  The engineer in this position will represent the employer at the assigned customer, and will be based on site with that customer. The position requires a person with excellent oral and written communication skills so customer concerns and requests can be effectively resolved. The position requires a good understanding of electrical / electronic / embedded systems components and the ability to troubleshoot them at a system level.

Based in Detroit, USA: the role offers the successful candidate the chance to work within a major US automotive manufacturer on an exciting and technically challenging project. 

For the right candidate Cosworth will assist with re-location expenses to the Detroit area from within the USA.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Work with development team to problem solve technical issues.
  • Conduct 'hands on' internal development and validation testing.
  • Provide data from testing to design team for inclusion in design and/or validation.
  • Provide appropriate project documentation and status updates as needed
  • Act as primary day-to-day interface with customer to maintain high levels of customer service while advocating for Cosworth's interests
  • Support customer testing as required, at component, bench, and vehicle levels
  • Support customer manufacturing activities at pilot and production levels
  • Support customer hardware and software releases as needed
  • Design and commission test equipment as needed to support product development and manufacturing.
  • Attend customer meetings as required as a representative of Cosworth.

Skills, Qualifications & Attributes:

Essential

  • BSc/MSc or BEng/MEng level Degree in a relevant discipline or equivalent qualification.
  • Basic electronic hardware and software experience.
  • Excellent creativity and problem-solving skills
  • Ability and motivation to work independently and manage time/priorities with limited direction and high levels of personal responsibility
  • Experience CAN protocol and diagnostic test tools.
  • Ability to easily recognize system deficiencies and advise on effective solutions.
  • Ability to see things from the perspective of our customers, and work towards mutually beneficial solutions.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English
  • Strong interpersonal and team-working skills

Beneficial

  • Experience with Automotive CAN protocols and diagnostic test tools
  • Experience with Automotive/Motorsport Data and Video Acquisition
  • Automotive OE or Tier 1 experience in design, development and/or manufacturing
  • Experience/interest in Motorsports, such as Formula SAE
