Purpose of the Role:

Key task of the role is to design, develop and use innovative electro-mechanical systems for the WT, test rigs and race car including data processing and analysis. The work focuses especially on Aerodynamic development and experimentation.

Role Dimensions:

  • Sits within the Racing Technology department.
  • Close cooperation with other engineers and designers in the team, also with aerodynamicists, modelmakers and production staff.
  • Regular support of wind tunnel and trackside operations i.e. travel and work outside UK.
  • Potential work beyond standard working hours and on weekends.

Principal Accountabilities:

  • Conceptual layout and development of prototype and experimental electro-mechanical systems, according to a brief and in cooperation with electronic, control and software engineers.
  • Design of experiments and experimental equipment for use in wind tunnel, on rigs and race track.
  • Plan, perform and supervise experiments in WT, on test rigs and race track.
  • Design of components and assemblies in CATIA V5 including:
    • use of FEA and Kinematic tools.
    • good quality detail and assembly drawings that have all the required data for manufacture and assembly.
  • Processing, analysis and reporting of experimental data and results:
    • Development of data processing and visualization tools, together with the software team.
    • Detailed analysis of data, drawing conclusions and suggesting further work.
    • Preparation of detailed reports and presentations.
  • Responsible for complete projects, fit for purpose, from brief and concept phase to final commissioning and reporting.
