Job Summary

The Racing Instructor is responsible for the comprehensive instruction of operating racing vehicles while demonstrating and ensuring that Exotics Racing students/customers maneuver vehicles with optimal safety. Instructors provide one-on-one coaching in classroom instruction/ briefing as well as instructing inside of the racing vehicle.

Primary Duties & Responsibilities

  • Provide racing instruction and one-on-one coaching as a passenger to students/customers;

  • Instruct students/customers to safely maneuver race car through the course, around the track at an accelerated rate of speed; the instructor must remain acutely aware of track conditions at all times.
  • Plan and organize instruction in ways that maximizes the student/customer’s learning.
  • Monitor student/customers driving abilities related to shifting gears, braking, and accelerating; coach the customer/students to execute these tasks while travelling at high speed.
  • Participate in classroom briefing with customer/students.
  • Coordinate and facilitate track Discovery lap with customer/students.
  • Display professional and courteous demeanor when escorting customer/students to cars.
  • Maintain clean cars by wiping down as necessary.
  • Check air pressure on vehicles as needed.
  • Ensure that work areas are kept clean.
  • Manage confidential information.
  • Regular and consistent attendance.

Required Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities

Must possess the ability to communicate information and ideas in speaking so others will understand; ability to listen to and understand information and ideas presented through spoken words and sentences; speak clearly so others can understand you; ability to tell when something is wrong or is likely to go wrong; ability to arrange things or actions in a certain order or pattern according to a specific rule or set of rules; ability to quickly and repeatedly adjust the controls of a machine or a vehicle to exact positions; apply general rules to specific problems to produce answers that make sense; judge which of several objects is closer or farther away from you, or to judge the distance between you and an object; ability to see details at a distance and at close range; ability to maintain high energy level and the ability to work both independently and as a strong team member.

Instructors should have familiarity with car engines and mechanical technology; experience with racing supercars preferred. In addition to excellent driving skills, instructors should also have excellent reflexes, communication skills, vision, quick decision-making skills, and be self-motivated. Must be able to work variable shifts including weekends. Must be fluent in English; additional languages a plus. Clean driving record (verifiable by company background check) and valid driver’s license required.

Work Environment

May be exposed to sounds and noise levels that are distracting or uncomfortable; may be exposed to hazardous equipment and/or hazardous conditions requiring the need to wear common protective or safety equipment such as safety shoes, glasses, gloves, hard hats; may require working in very hot or very cold temperatures; may require working under covered structure with roof but no walls; requires working outdoors exposed to all weather conditions.

Requires contact with others (face-to-face, by telephone or otherwise); ability to withstand the heat and body-battering strain of driving at nearly 200 miles per hour (about 322 KmH).

Physical Demands

Performs physical activities that require considerable use of arms and legs and moving whole body, such as climbing, lifting, balancing, walking, stooping, and handling of materials; using hands and arms in handling, installing, positioning, and moving materials, and manipulating things; repeating the same physical activities or mental activities over and over, without stopping. The instructor must be able to occasionally lift and/or move 60 pounds (i.e. change a tram unit tire) and be able to work in all elements.
