In this role you will join a team of highly skilled professionals who are committed to ensuring every engine we build for the water and race track performs with Ilmor-standard perfection.

Major Areas of Responsibility

  • Assemble and build any type of engine designed, manufactured, or serviced by Ilmor following industry standard assembly techniques (e.g. Ilmor 396 racing engine, IndyCar racing engine,7.4L Marine Engine)
  • Measure components to close tolerances
  • Set and verify part clearances
  • Verify conformance of parts to stock lists or blueprints using measuring instruments, such as calipers, gauges, or micrometers
  • Accurate use of measuring equipment and the required hand tools
  • Assemble systems of gears by aligning and meshing gears in gearboxes
  • Crack testing of parts using non-destructive methods
  • Engine build record keeping with component history data
  • Other duties may be assigned

Knowledge 

  • English Language — Knowledge of the structure and content of the English language including the meaning and spelling of words, rules of composition, and grammar.
  • Engineering and Technology — Knowledge of the practical application of engineering science and technology. This includes applying principles, techniques, procedures, and equipment to the design and production of various goods and services.
  • Production and Processing — Knowledge of raw materials, production processes, quality control, costs, and other techniques for maximizing the effective manufacture and distribution of goods.

  • Critical Thinking — Using logic and reasoning to identify the strengths and weaknesses of alternative solutions, conclusions or approaches to problems.
  • Problem Sensitivity — The ability to tell when something is wrong or is likely to go wrong. It does not involve solving the problem, only recognizing there is a problem.
  • Education & Experience 
  • Vocational or Associates in a related subject such as assembly, engineering, engine tech would be preferred
  • Candidates must have at least 3 to 5 years of recent hands on engine or sub assembly experience in a relevant environment.
  • Must be have full knowledge of measuring equipment
  • Proficient with computers and Microsoft applications

Physical Requirements/Work Environment

  • The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit or stand. The employee is frequently required to use their hands and fingers to handle, feel objects, use tools or controls and climb or balance. The employee is occasionally required to walk, reach with hands and arms, kneel, crouch, crawl and talk or hear.
  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally exposed to moving mechanical parts, fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, risk of electric shock, and explosives.
  • The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate. However, some instances of this job may require work in areas where ear protection is necessary.

Nuts & Bolts

  • Full-time: (40 hours) + occasional mandatory overtime
  • Shift time: 7:00 AM - 4:00 PM
