Race Team Support Lead Garage Technician

General Summary:

This position reports to the Race Team Support Supervisor or their designee when factory based and the Chief Garage Technician when traveling with the race team; is located in Banbury, UK. This role will provide support to the race team from the Banbury workshop and will support trackside events as required.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Promote teamwork and effective communications to develop working relationships between all personnel and departments.
  • Collaborate and work cohesively with the RTS Supervisor on a daily basis reporting any issues and finding solutions in a timely manner.
  • Work within the Race team support group, taking responsibility of the service of sea freight, team equipment and logistics required for various events. This role will also be providing support during the turnaround process of the racecars including but not limited to the organising of pit equipment, refueling and stock levels.
  • To ensure that all road, air and sea freight is loaded according to internal procedures and policies, whilst adhering to Health & Safety standards at all times. 
  • Responsible for the adherence to known consigner status both at the factory and at the track.
  • Supports all tests and races when required, with responsibility for the build and presentation of the garage and associated equipment as well as the transportation of race team freight including cars and pit equipment.
  • Ensure that all freight is serviced, stock controlled and safely loaded on-time for transportation
  • Maintenance of all pit equipment in accordance with schedules and presentation standards.
  • Construction of the garage environment at all tests and races events including bannering system, overhead lighting gantry, services and pit equipment.
  • Supporting the on-car race team Assist during running sessions to ensure that the team operates in an efficient, professional and safe manner always.
  • You will be responsible for the cleanliness and condition of your work area, the garage, and all tools and equipment.
  • Follow all safety regulations in all venues.
  • Assumes any responsibilities and duties delegated by the Race Team Support Supervisor or their designee.

Education and Work Experience:

GCSE, High School diploma or equivalent required. Preferred 1 year of work experience. Capable of working in a team environment to a very high standard and have a positive and aspirational work attitude. Ideally holds requirements for Electrical Installation (18th Edition) Qualification / ATEX certified.

Specialized Knowledge and Skills:

  • Previous experience of working in a professional motorsport environment.
  • Proven experience of working alone and within a team.
  • Ability to diagnose equipment faults and create solutions to solve associated issues.
  • The ability to consistently work to the highest standards with an exceptional attitude towards attention to detail.
  • Ability to deliver solutions in a pressurised environment under tight time constraints.
  • A ‘can do’ positive approach and a willingness to help others.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft office products (Outlook, Excel, Word).
  • Knowledge of formula one garage equipment and systems.
  • Ability to travel extensively abroad for over 200 days per year.
  • Self-motivated with the ability to use initiative where appropriate
  • Good verbal and written communication skills
  • Strong analytical skills and ability to overcome technical and operational issues

Equipment and Applications:

  • Computer knowledge, preferred experience in Microsoft Office products and Microsoft Dynamics AX.
  • Mechanical aptitude.
  • Ability to follow complex regulations related to shipment of materials and facility maintenance requirements.

Work Environment Physical Demands:

An ability to work and prioritize within a high pressure, time sensitive environment while retaining a methodical approach is essential. The role may require occasional international travel and a willingness to work long and flexible hours including weekends.

This position may require lifting to 50 pounds, repeated bending, squatting and manual dexterity. Fast-paced work environment requiring heavy mental demands. Work environment includes machinery, race cars, 7-post and other rigs, grinding debris, and hazardous fluids. All employees must ensure compliance with the Company Health and Safety Policy, and all relevant other statutory Health and Safety legislation.
