Quality Inspector

Job purpose

The main purpose of this role is to assure the quality and conformity of parts produced and restoration work carried out in GTO’s workshops. The job holder will ensure that the workshop products and associated activities of GTO Engineering are properly measured and monitored for compliance with appropriate quality standards and to ensure full customer satisfaction with service provided in the restoration and refurbishment of classic cars. 

Duties and responsibilities

  1. Continue to develop and maintain quality systems and procedures to establish standards relating to activities and services of GTO’s classic car restoration business. Interpret and implement quality assurance standards. 
  2. Continue to develop and maintain systems to measure status as per job card instructions and drawings. Devise sampling procedures for recording and reporting quality data. 
  3. Monitor performance (in relevant areas) according to agreed standards and recommend any additional restoration work to ensure quality standards and performance levels are met.
  4. Carry out operational tests on components and feed back observations on required rectification or improvement. 
  5. Continue to develop QC certification process. Monitor and inform/communicate/apply standards created/maintained by external bodies and integrate within internal quality management systems.
  6. Continue to establish and implement necessary internal communication for the improvement and awareness of quality issues across all sections of GTO.
  7. Deliver quality control activities in accordance with plans and within agreed budgets and timescales.
  8. Report as necessary on changes in standards (internally and externally initiated) and on performance against standards.
  9. Liaise and co-operate with quality standards bodies (e.g., BSI, Government Departments, HSE, etc.)
  10. Liaise with customers and suppliers where necessary, including carrying out customer satisfaction surveys  
  11. Investigate customer complaints and non-conformance issues. 
  12. Collect and compile statistical quality data. Review the implementation and efficiency of quality and inspection systems.
  13. Identify training needs and organize training interventions to meet quality standards.
  14. Evaluate audit findings and implement appropriate corrective actions.
  15. Monitor risk management activities.
  16. Monitor compliance with safety standards and with the company’s safety policy making recommendations where appropriate to achieve full compliance.

 

Experience required

The experience required to successfully perform the job includes the following:

  • Up to 3 years as a quality inspector or controller in a mechanical or auto engineering environment 
  • Quality inspection, auditing and testing experience
  • Automotive industry experience an advantage  
  • Experience with implementation of corrective action programs

           

Technical skills and specialized knowledge 

  • Strong computer skills including Microsoft Office and databases
  • Knowledge of tools, concepts and methodologies of QA
  • Knowledge of relevant QA regulatory requirements
  • Knowledge of Aberlink Software and CMM Axiom too machines advantageous
  • Ability to read technical drawings and GD&T (Geometric Dimensions & Tolerances)

 

Educational attainment and qualifications  

  • Engineering Apprenticeship
  • Certifications as Quality Auditor or Quality Engineer
  • Membership or accreditation by a relevant professional association

Salary - £27,000 to £36,000
