Purchasing Manager

With a backdrop of continued growth and success, McLaren Automotive is now consolidating its motorsport strategy with specific aims; enriching the customer’s experience on and off track, broadening the McLaren brand appeal to a wider global audience and delivering motorsport experiences that are best in class.  

As we begin this exciting journey we are looking for a Purchasing Manager to join our rapidly expanding team and help us to deliver the best GT cars to our global customer base.

Purpose of the role:

The Purchasing manager will be responsible for leading & developing a growing team of Buyers and Material controllers to ensure the successful delivery of components for our Motorsport Production and development teams.

You will also work closely with the Director of Operations for MSO and the Head of Motorsport to define and deliver the Motorsport purchasing & supply chain strategy to encompass the successful build and development of GT cars across multiple classes and also our McLaren Experience program.

Principal accountabilities:

  • Supply Chain responsibility for both pre-series, series and after sales expenditure
  • Point of escalation to assist with resolving commercial, timing & supply issues and contract discussions
  • Continuously being aware of, and pro-actively addressing potential or actual shortages
  • Lead contract negotiations, including terms and conditions, for goods and services.
  • Develop strong relationships with key stakeholders and provide full supply chain support for any identified project activities / requirements.
  • Effective management of a supplier relationship in order to increase the value gained from the partnership
  • Managing and/or supervising a full supplier portfolio, ensuring adherence to delivery schedules in line with production requirements, supplier lead times, and warehousing capacities
  • Close liaison with other disciplines within the logistics organisation, as well as other departments (especially production and quality)

Knowledge, skills & experience:

  • Extensive procurement knowledge is vital, to ensure delivery of commercial agreements against programme targets, as well as identification of suppliers on a global basis
  • Previous experience within the motorsport industry, especially GT racing or automotive production environments, would be a distinct advantage
  • Proven supply chain experience / Experience in dealing with both small and large value organisations
  • Experience of working cross-functionally within a development program involving diverse functions such as quality, logistics, development, planning.
  • Demonstrable experience and success of contract management, tendering and negotiation
