Programming and Diagnostic VCAT's Engineer

Duties / Responsibilities (Including Objectives of the role):

The purpose of this role is to support Manufacturing & Projects in all aspects of Vehicle Configuration and Testing. Achieving all project gateways is key to the successful delivery of all new products, you will therefore support in the delivery of all internal program & defined supplier milestones to ensure this happens. Within this role, you will also manage & support timing plans that ensure the successful delivery of the full program. To lead the integration and launch of VCATs into the production environment. The objective of the role is to ensure that we enter production with a robust process that avoids the potential for any quality defects related to these systems from reaching the end customer. The role will require close interaction with the engineering teams currently developing these systems. 

Main duties of this role includes: 

  • Develop a comprehensive manufacturing readiness plan in relation to the systems listed.
  • Manage all activities related to this manufacturing readiness plan through to production and beyond. 
  • Specify and assist in sourcing the hardware and related control systems that will be required within the production facility, for on line programming (SWDL), on line system testing (ECOS), off line Active safety systems testing & calibration, roll test calibration, diagnostics and fault code capture/clear. Off line rectification. 
  • Author & modify existing VCATs test scripts for the above processes.
  • Identify resource requirements and training needs and participate in developing a qualified team.
  • Provide input to the engineering team developing these systems to ensure that the systems as developed are compatible with the chosen production methods and systems. 
  • Contribute to DFMEA's and lead the preparation pf PFMEA's for these systems.
  • Provide ongoing support following production prototype builds, for SOP readiness, for future models, new features, cost-reduction programmes etc.

Qualifications and Experience (Essential & Desirable criteria)

 Essential Criteria: 

  • HNC/HND/Degree in Mechanical. Automotive Engineering or relevant discipline
  • Good working knowledge of project delivery within an OEM automotive manufacturer
  • Experience working on VCATs scripts and with EOL testing system
  • Programming skills associated with VCATs and Volvo software
  • Self motivated, able to work on their own initiative and have good time management skills
