Principal Engineer - Infotainment Systems

As Principal Engineer for the Infotainment Systems, you will be responsible for definition, development and delivery of state-of-the-art electronic driver information and infotainment features to current and future McLaren road cars.

The Infotainment team is responsible for the specification, test and delivery of all infotainment systems, which includes: developing system requirements, test case and procedure creation, manual test execution and automated testing.

The Principal Engineer would need to coordinate the Infotainment team towards achieving these goals, conducting supplier management, proof of concept development, definition of future concepts in line with McLaren’s roadmap and visions and business reviews.

The position requires an experienced highly motivated and hands-on team player with exceptional attention to detail, diligence, and a positive attitude. The fast-paced development and bespoke target platform provide a challenging environment suited to a Principal Engineer who has the ability to liaise with and guide or coordinate other engineers within a multidisciplinary team.

Principal Accountabilities:

  • Manage a cross-functional team to collectively deliver all aspects of the Infotainment platform on current and future vehicles
  • Maintain current supply base and establish strategic partnerships to enhance technology roadmap
  • Coordinate and support writing detailed system specifications for driver information and infotainment features
  • Lead integration of infotainment systems and features with the overall vehicle architecture
  • Assist with management of multiple hardware and software suppliers to deliver new driver information and infotainment features on time, on cost, and within quality and functional specifications
  • Coordinate and report on current activities, software status and issues at a business level
  • Define and co-ordinate DVP plans for all areas associated with driver information and infotainment software and hardware.
  • Ensure and sign-off launch readiness of features for production
  • Coordinate and support testing McLaren road cars with the latest features and content before release.
  • Coordinate and assist with fault finding and root cause analysis of software and hardware failures.
  • Coordinate and support bugs reporting and creation of test reports
  • Lead issue resolution with hardware and software suppliers
  • Take responsibility for resolving Infotainment issues on current production vehicles

Required Technical Knowledge, Skills and Experience:

  • Several years of coordinating experience in development and delivery of Infotainment and Cluster Instrument systems (e.g. Driver Information, Navigation, Multimedia, Connectivity, etc.), with proven evidence of decision making and accountability.
  • Be well versed in the creation and maintenance of Technical Specifications, DFMEA's, DVP, Timing Plans, Minutes and Actions of Meetings, including the ability to produce formal documentation to a professional standard
  • Experience of the Systems Development Lifecycle (V Model); writing system requirements, defining test cases and writing test procedures
  • Organised, systematic and understand the process of fault finding
  • Knowledge of CAN/LIN/Ethernet and related tools such as CANoe/CANalyzer
  • Familiar with issue tracking tools (Jira, Mantis, Bugzilla etc.)

  • Passion for the automotive industry, technology and/or infotainment would be advantageous but not essential.

Educational Requirements:

Bachelor’s or Master’s degree (2.1 or higher) in Electronic/Electrical Engineering, Telecommunications, Software Engineering or other relevant engineering subjects.
