Powertrain Control Systems Engineer

We have an exciting opportunity for a Powertrain Control Systems Engineer to join the Performance Department at Mercedes-Benz Grand Prix.

 

Working in the controls applied team at our the state-of-the-art facility in the UK, you will be part of a team that is responsible for writing control systems for the FIA Standard ECU, calibration development and support for running the systems at our factory and at our customers facilities.

 

Key Responsibilities

  • Contribute to a team of engineers responsible for supporting our F1 transmission running at customers facilities during race / test events.

  • Perform data analysis and write algorithms to assess reliability and performance.

  • Generate prompt and accurate reports to communicate faults, concerns and potential improvements during events.

  • Undertake calibration development to ensure reliability and deliver performance.

  • Identify improvements and write control systems for the SECU.

Candidate Profile

 

The ideal candidate will have:-

  • More than 2 years experience working in a similar area of the automotive industry (preferably performance vehicles) with an understanding of vehicle transmissions, hydraulic and electronic systems.

  • Experience writing and testing control systems using Matlab / Simulink.

  • Understanding of time series data analysis using Matlab or other similar tools.

  • A strong engineering-based degree including specialisations such as mechanical, control, electronic engineering or similar.

  • High attention to detail, enjoy problem solving and able to work with limited supervision to tight deadlines.

Prior experience in motorsport is not required: we are more interested in your potential to deliver at the highest level, applying your skills and understanding to practical engineering challenges.

 

The work location will be predominantly in the UK and encompass working multiple weekends.
