Performance Engineer

Overall missions and responsibilities:

The Automobile Club de l’Ouest (ACO) is seeking a Senior Performance and Simulation Engineer who will be responsible for our championships’ (WEC, ELMS, ALMS) Performance and Data Analysis. The job will be divided into two main missions:

✓ Predict, analyse and understand the performance of existing cars in our race events (Balance of Performance...)

✓ Work on deep simulation studies in order to frame Technical Regulations. ✓ Hydrogen related projects and Technical Regulations.

Missions

✓ Simulations

o Model any type of car and power unit strategies to assess Technical Regulation Paths

✓ Performance

o Pre-event preparation and reporting using timing/data analysis and simulation

o Race attendance, performing live timing/data analysis with vehicle performance evaluation.

o Post-event reporting, using timing/data analysis

o Develop and validate advanced and bespoke analysis data and timing tools aimed at improving our understanding of on track vehicle performance (driver performance, vehicle dynamics, aerodynamics, powertrain, refuelling...) and competitors’ strategies.

Desirable skills

  • Engineering degree is required.

  • At least ten years’ post-graduate experience in motor sport electronics.

  • Have a minimum of five years’ experience with simulation software (multiple powertrains i.e., internal combustion engine, hybrid, electrical motors...)

  • Have a minimum of five years’ experience with Matlab

  • Review, understand and implement methods from state-of-the-art literature in the areas of Optimization, Statistics, Machine Learning

  • Strong experience of data analysis software, preferably with Magneti Marelli (or similar)

  • Strong organization skills, a proactive and team player attitude and the ability to work autonomously and in the strictest confidence.

  • Strong communication skills, allowing high performance presentation of results and conclusions

Requirements

  • Fluency in both spoken and written English is required

  • Fluency in both spoken and written French is highly desired

  • Willingness to travel extensively (+/- 10 events per year)

  • Desire to work in collaboration with multiple stakeholders: FIA, IMSA, ACO subsidiaries

  • This position can be remote-based, regular travels to our headquarters in Le Mans France are required though
