Part-Time Security Officer (Event Staff)

Located near Des Moines, Iowa Speedway joined the NASCAR family of tracks in 2013. Known as the "Fastest Short Track on the Plant", Iowa Speedway plays host to three major race weekends a year, welcoming the NASCAR Xfinity Series, NASCAR Gander RV & Outdoors Truck Series and IndyCar. The track was designed by NASCAR Hall of Famer Rusty Wallace.

Iowa Speedway is seeking event staff on the Security team.  The Security team provides a visible security presence to guests and employees throughout the Speedway property in order to uphold policies and procedures while maintaining positive guest experiences.

Summary

Assist in maintaining the safety, security, and orderly operations of Iowa Speedway while providing exceptional customer service.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following:  Other duties may be assigned.

Maintain posts and screen guests for proper tickets and credentials throughout the facility on race weekends.

Control access to different areas on-site without proper credentials using verbal communication and physical presence.

Ensure safety is maintained by enforcing Iowa Speedway/NASCAR rules/policies.

Provide outstanding customer service by providing information, giving directions, and answering questions.

Assist competitors, owners, and race officials by managing infield/overflow parking areas.

Maintain the physical security of garages, haulers, race cars, competitors’ equipment, and other assigned areas by patrolling on foot and in Iowa Speedway vehicles.

Roam the grounds on foot and in golf carts assisting guests, relieving co-workers for breaks, and responding to calls for assistance.

Search bags of ticketed guests entering the garage area and incoming RVs parking on RV Hill for weapons and contraband.

Qualifications

Education and/or Experience

High school diploma or general education degree (GED); or one to three months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Language Skills

Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.  Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.  Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization.

Mathematical Skills

Ability to add and subtract two digit numbers and to multiply and divide with 10’s and 100’s.  Ability to perform these operations using units of American money and weight measurement, volume, and distance.

Reasoning Ability

Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.  Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
