Operations Manager

Ruroc since its MBO in 2015 has grown from £1m rev to £20m+ revenue Action / Motor Sports helmet brand selling into over 90 countries globally from its single distribution centre in Gloucester. Ruroc is a truly Global brand with only 10% of orders being placed in the UK.

All sales take place through Ruroc’s ecommerce store www.ruroc.com giving Ruroc a unique connection that to the customer that challenger brands do not possess. This close connection to the end rider has given us the ability to rapidly innovate and enhance our gear at a rate never before seen in the Global helmet industry.

Our products are designed, engineered and developed internally. All content is produced by the Ruroc creative / media team. Customer service and Global distribution are all handled from one central location in Gloucester. Everything at Ruroc is designed to ensure we master our own destiny and fulfil the potential of the Ruroc brand.

Ruroc riders typically range between 22-35 and predominantly male, however we are seeing rapid growth in the female helmet market. Our riders are adventurers who live active lifestyles and don’t like spending too much time indoors.

In 2020 our team have decided to “never be far behind the latest Amazon promise”. We want to give our riders the ability to press a button today, and ride with us tomorrow. Our aim is to completely remove the friction and worry of ordering a helmet online. To achieve our goal we are searching for an ambitious Operations Manager who’s passion will be to ensure we deliver our promise to Ruroc Riders all over the World.

Reporting directly to Ruroc’s Operations Director and Co-Owner, Bridget Rees, as Operations Manager you will be a natural leader and will be capable of getting the best out of a team of hardworking warehouse operatives. You will manage the day-to-day operations of the Ruroc distribution centre planning all Goods-in and Goods-out activity. While 75% of your time will be spent on delivering on the Ruroc promise ‘today’ (this quarter, this FY etc.) you will be given the freedom to assess and implement new systems, processes and best practices to ensure the distribution centre is leading-edge and keeping pace with the growth of the sales of the business.

As one of the key managers in the business you’ll be invited to high-level meetings with Ruroc’s Directors in order for you to bring forth ideas for how to ensure Ruroc consistently improves its delivery experience.

Main Accountabilities

  • Own and manage the day-to-day operations of the Ruroc distribution centre, ensuring same day dispatch on all in-stock items.
  • Own the recruitment of senior and assistant level distribution centre operatives and ensure the staff to daily output ratio is ample for the various seasonal swings within the distribution centre.
  • Work closely with the Operations Director to ensure new systems implementation is timely and deployed with minimal business interruption.
  • Work closely with the Buying and Merchandising team to ensure Goods-In and onsite stock levels always match the needs of the Trading team who require 100% stock availability on Ruroc.com
  • Daily / Weekly reporting on distribution centre output, your teams activity and the overall results of the distribution centre.
  • Monitor individual throughput for each operative in the DC
  • Analyse returns reasons with the QA Manager and the CS Director to eliminate regular shipping and customer purchasing errors.
  • Collaborate with the Tech Director to ensure customer purchasing errors are flagged and eliminated.
  • Regularly review DC layout and increase capacity whenever possible.
  • Maintain the DC staff rota.
  • Think like a Ruroc Rider. All-day. Everyday.

EXPERIENCE

You have...

  • 3-5 Years of managing distribution activity within eCommerce or similar high throughput distribution centre.
  • Strong entrepreneurial bias that has track record building, managing and motivating yourself and teams of DC operators.
  • Experience managing quick stock turnover with high SKU count.
  • Strong experience with people management and recruiting.
