Multi-Body Simulation & Structural Dynamics Engineer

Purpose of Role: to drive and influence component designs, predict loads and solve dynamic problems through the use of static, dynamic simulation tools, engineering skill and creativity in order to achieve required performance parameters and ensure that stringent safety & durability requirements are satisfied.

Role Dimensions:

The successful candidate will be part of the Structural Design Team and will work in close co-operation with Design and Vehicle Simulation. This central and varied role will involve anything from providing creative and technical guidance to basic sizing (hand calculations), complex Multi-Body Simulation and non-linear Finite Element Analysis, as well as overseeing the rig testing of components and analysing telemetry data.

Standard working hours, but flexibility to work additional hours when required. 

Principal Accountabilities:

  • A point of contact for vibration/ structural dynamics
  • Develop and validate static and dynamic simulations (MBS and some FEA)
  • Report analysis results in a clear, concise and structured manner
  • Provide recommendations for design improvements
  • Develop new methodologies and undertake R&D/ capability improvements
  • Instruct and oversee rig testing, including vibration surveys and shaker testing
  • Interrogate and interpret measured data

Knowledge, Skills and Experience:

  • Strong Degree in Mechanical/ Aeronautical Engineering or relevant subject
  • Excellent knowledge of Structural Dynamics methodologies & principles
  • Experience of Multi-Body Simulation (ideally Simpack)
  • Familiarity of mainstream FEA solvers and interfaces desirable (preferably Hyperworks, Abaqus, NCode)
  • Good understanding of fatigue and durability of metals
  • Some understanding of composites desirable
  • PC literate and basic CAD skills
