Media and Community Relations Internship

Seeking: Sonoma Raceway is seeking an energetic, responsible intern to join its Media & Community Relations department for the 2020 race season.

About the Internship:
The goal of the media & community relations internship at Sonoma Raceway is to provide students and recent college graduates with quality, practical experience that better equips them to enter the competitive job market. The internship is also an opportunity to learn more about media & community relations and the motorsports industry.

Primary Duties:
Interns will interact with the Sonoma Raceway media & community relations department and will be responsible for, but not limited to:

  • General support of Sonoma Raceway media & community relations department
  • Assist in the execution of media plans
  • Fulfill credential requests
  • Event weekend preparation
  • Media center set-up
  • Write press releases
  • Assist with community events and press conferences
  • Work directly with media members
  • Some events will be off-site and will include working evenings and weekends.
  • Participate in brainstorm sessions
  • Attend weekly media relations, marketing and ticketing meetings

The ideal internship candidate:

  • Current college student or recent college graduate with an interest in media relations
  • Solid written and verbal communication skills
  • Excellent command of Microsoft Office (Excel and Word)
  • Highly organized, detail oriented and self-motivated
  • Able to work successfully in a group, juggle multiple projects and meet deadlines
  • Self-starter who is able to work both autonomously and collaboratively
  • Knowledge of motorsports preferred, but not required.
  • Relevant experience (employment or internship) in communications preferred, but not required
  • Ability to carry up to 20 lbs.

Internship Dates:
May 4 – August 19 Generally three days per week, eight hours per day (9 a.m.-5 p.m.). Days to be mutually agreed upon. Tuesday availability preferred.
In addition, there are a minimum of two required event weeks (Monday-Sunday). These events include: NASCAR (two weeks) – June 1-5 and June 8-14; NHRA – July 20-July 26.
