Mechanical Engineer Apprenticeship

During the first part of your training as an apprentice you will be training in our on-site academy, here you will learn basic machining and hand fitting skills through a series of supervised machining tasks, in which you will manufacture of a number of engineering tools.

You will attend college one day a week which will provide you with the technical knowledge and understanding of manufacturing techniques that you will be using. This will give you a further understanding about the materials, manufacturing equipment and processes that you will be using throughout your career.

Apprentices work on a variety of machines within the academy including:

  •          Centre lathes 
  •          Vertical milling machines
  •          Surface grinders
  •          Pillar drills

In the second and third year you will undertake training on the shop floor. You will have the opportunity to complete more advanced machining tasks, involving programming and running complex CNC machining

At the end of the third year you will achieve Level 2 and 3 NVQ Extended Diploma in Mechanical Manufacturing Engineering with the opportunity to go on and take HNC.
