Materials Process Control Engineer

The Purpose of this role is:

 

Working closely with the additive manufacturing operational and sales teams to be focused to align business capability to customer requirements ensuring process control. This role will support sales functions to enable the uptake of additive manufacturing within the various targeted sectors.

 

The Key Responsibilities of this role are:

  • Provide knowledge of topics of additive manufacturing metallurgy through powder composition through the effects of laser build including stress relieving process.
  • Evaluate microstructural response during mechanical testing, such as tensile, compressive, and dynamic loading and during heat treatments and other types of post-processing.
  • Perform characterisation of metal AM components, including optical microscopy.
  • Design and perform complex experiments; collect and analyse resulting in datasheets for each material base.
  • Document results and continue to develop data sheets including the effect of various post processing techniques.
  • Continually develop process control throughout the additive manufacturing process
  • Develop life management controls for both metal and polymer materials.
  • Create and maintain relationships with relevant academic facilities.
  • Adhere to all Health and Safety requirements and perform any other reasonable duties as required
  • Ensure the completion of all mechanical testing of materials and samples produced at DMC

Key Skills:

  • A strong passion for additive manufacturing/new technologies is desired, demonstrable by either personal projects and or prior work experience.
  • A good understanding of materials and manufacturing processes.
  • You will be technically minded with a keen eye for detail
  • Competent within MS Office
  • Impeccable time management and highly organised
  • Understand the importance of KPI-driven performances
  • Able to adhere to routine procedures and can take full responsibility for your own actions Are an ambitious individual, able to think outside the box and provide process improvement input as we continuously seek to improve product quality and production flow.
  • Positive approach with a can do attitude
  • Team player with great social and communication skills

 

Experience and Qualifications:

  • Working towards, or already achieved a 2.1 in any of the following subjects - mechanical engineering, Material Science, HNC in Engineering or above Obtained 1-2 years’ experience within a fast paced manufacturing environment.
  • Positive approach with a can do approach
  • Experience in a technical engineering/manufacturing environment
