Job Description

The Welding Accessories and Cutting Division is part of ITW's North America Welding Commercial Platform with two locations and annual revenue of $170M. The business consists of 5 distinct product segments - Safety, Education, Service Parts, Consumables and Accessories and also into two different sales channels, Distribution and Retail. The role of Material Manager requires a leader that can drive change in a fast-paced and ever-changing environment leveraging his/her strong interpersonal skills. The ideal candidate will lead, coordinate and support supply chain activities for a business that is 90% purchase for resale.

Essential Functions:

Key responsibilities include:

  • Manage domestic and foreign supply chain of both raw material and finished goods
  • Support, implement and report on material strategies in addition to participating in Strategic Sourcing projects within ITW Welding.
  • Managing warranty and end of life service parts
  • Activities related to procurement, storage, and shipment of materials
  • Leading cost, quality, delivery, productivity, and simplification activities
  • Developing collaborative versus transactional relationships with key vendors
  • Responsible for vendor negotiation (price, delivery compliance)
  • Develop and manage our supplier base (create and analyze supplier performance metrics)
  • Supplier visits
  • Manage material price variance, inventory turns and site cost reduction programs
  • Documentation of all cost savings, avoidances and increases
  • Develop and manage team of Material Coordinators and Material Techs
  • Communicate MRD adjustments to suppliers based upon expected material requirements
  • Responsible for maintaining MOH goals as well as limiting the non-active inventory classification
  • Responsible for cycle counts and inventory management
  • Daily interaction with Production and Marketing Teams
  • Adherence to and implementation of all ITW and division principles (flow, 80/20 simplification, empower, trust) - similar to lean concepts
  • Build a talent pipeline by motivating and inspiring direct reports to excel

Objectives:

  • Deliver aggressive annual cost savings
  • Lead and motivate the materials team to streamline and simplify processes
  • Lead the divisional sustainability efforts within the supply chain by eliminating wastes
  • Actively ensure that everyone on the team understands and follows practices
  • Work with our logistics team to consolidate freight and optimize our transportation model
  • Lead and execute in the areas of cost, delivery, productivity, and simplification activities

Deliverables:

  • Drive our vendor management activities to ensure excellent results on cost, quality, and delivery
  • Responsible for aggressive cost savings achievement
  • Demonstrated collaborative efforts with the vendor base and across division/platforms

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Operations/Supply Chain/Business Management required
  • 5-10 years experience in effective supplier management (negotiation, delivery, quality)
  • Thorough knowledge of materials function and understanding of value propositions
  • Ability to manage cost savings
  • Proven track record of setting and accomplishing short and long term strategy and goals
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment
  • Must be a self-starter, conscientious, and enthusiastic with a positive attitude
  • Demonstrated competency in prioritization and analytical skills
  • Demonstrated excellence in the following skills: communication and negotiation
  • Ability to embrace, build and promote a team environment
  • Excellent leadership, interpersonal, and time management skills
  • Experience in setting goals and performing reviews
  • Familiarity with global sourcing and currency exchange changes/fluctuations
  • Excellent computer skills (Microsoft Office package)
  • Must be willing to travel as needed
