Material Planning and Logistics Director

Duties / Responsibilities (Including Objectives of the role):

Statement

Overall responsibility for all Material Planning & Logistics activities for Lotus sports cars.

The role holder will ensure the correct quality and quantity of parts are always in the right place at the right time, enabling Lotus to produce our range of sports cars.

Starting with a clean sheet of paper, they will be responsible for defining and executing a strategy for all Lotus sports car logistics including inbound parts to point of fit and the distribution of finished vehicles.

Successfully managing material flowing from a complex and global supply base, the role holder will carefully control the company’s inventories to maximise parts availability whilst carefully controlling the impact on company cash flows and costs.

Role Objectives

The Material Planning & Logistics function is responsible for:

  • Determining from customer orders a build schedule for Operations; starting with Sales & Operations planning and cascading down into daily production plans,
  • Determining materials requirements based on the above and creating and issuing schedules to suppliers, both internal and external, to ensure the right quantity of materials are in the right place at the right time.
  • Managing the design change control process to successfully run-in/run-out inventory and minimise end of life obsolescence
  • Managing inventory, ensuring components and parts received are to the correct quality standard and acting effectively where this is not the case
  • Managing In-house warehousing and logistics activities, from inventory receipt on site to delivery to point of fit and the return of packaging/stillaging
  • Outbound logistics management (vehicle and non-vehicle) including export management
  • Management of logistics between Lotus locations
  • Control and ownership of all material and goods in-transit, including import management.

The Director of the function will create and implement best practice policies, procedures and processes which fulfill the department’s objectives and improve operational and financial performance.

They will provide leadership, guidance and coaching to the team to ensure they deliver for the business whilst succeeding in their own role and ambitions.

They will be focused in providing a solution to the business that ensures service excellence and will continually review and improve processes to ensure this is delivered.

d to build strong relationships with the key internal stakeholders that they deliver for in Sales & After-sales, Operations, Quality and Purchasing.

They will also need to build relationships with key suppliers to ensure that Lotus can deliver on tactical plans and ensure that any potential issues/risks are highlighted and dealt with at an early stage.

Scope

The role holder will have in-depth experience in global and complex Material Planning & Logistics at a senior level in order to credibly build this newly combined function.

They will have full budgetary responsibility for the function.  

Qualifications and Experience 

Essentials

  • Senior management experience in Material Planning & Logistics, ideally automotive based and definitely across a global and complex supplier base
  • OEM experience
  • Excellent relationship management skills
  • Strong and proven leadership and management skills
  • Commercially astute
  •  Experience of delivering new strategic solutions, gained within transformation or start-up businesses
