Marketing Manager

Job title: Marketing Manager  
 
W Series, the ground-breaking motor racing championship for female drivers only, is recruiting a Marketing Manager to help us grow the W Series brand. The ideal person will be curious about working for an exciting start-up business and will have an interest in women’s sport and extensive marketing experience, particularly in creating campaign strategies for developing brand growth.  
 
Purpose of role:  

  • Reporting to and working alongside the Marketing Director, control all W Series brand activities and marketing campaigns  
  • To define and apply the objectives and relative brand positioning of W Series brands and activities, translating them into brand and campaign strategies and creative solutions   
  • Act as the gatekeeper for brand marketing across the business   
  • Brand and campaign development, promotion and project management 

Principal accountabilities:  

  • Help define and impliment a consistent and coherent brand positioning and brand strategies in line with overall objectives and key performance indicators across W Series activities  
  • Actively seek out and develop creative solutions to bring to life the relative brand positioning, based on sound insights and research to inform decision-makers and which deliver against brand key performance indicators  
  • Assist in the agency tender process, appointment and management of creative, brand and media agency and implementation of successful campaign(s)  
  • Oversee the creative and strategic direction of TV adverts, print advertisements, direct mail packs, email campaigns, guest programme materials, exhibition stands, brochures and liaising with art designers, copywriters, media buyers and printers  
  • Initiate and deliver international media plans, with agency planning support as required, to ensure effective targeting of specific audience(s)  
  • Guide the development of merchandise and licensing items and design guidelines to ensure W Series brand is effectively and consistently portrayed  
  • Act as custodian and main linchpin for the brand across all platforms on and off-line and apply a consistent and distinctive tone of voice for the brand  
  • Maintain a high level of understanding of customer insight and audience segmentation. Manage our brand and oversee fan research, supporting the business where applicable with relevant insight and ensuring general awareness of research trends to colleagues and partners 
  • Research consumer markets, monitor market trends and identify potential areas in which to invest, based upon consumer needs and spending habits 
  • Generate names for new and existing products and services, coming up with ideas for new designs, including shape, size, colours, fonts and imagery  
  • Check and approve accurate marketing copy and establish a reliable process for ensuring core brand assets are approved across the business  
  • Support the Marketing Director in a range of marketing initiatives to help drive fan engagement with W Series which may evolve from time to time 

Knowledge, skills and experience:  

  • Extensive brand strategy marketing experience, preferably within the sports industry   
  • Knowledge of turning research and insights into strategies and creative solutions  
  • Experience in managing agencies and numerous internal and external stakeholders  
  • Educated to degree standard, preferably in a relevant academic discipline  
  • Excellent written and spoken communication skills with the ability to present at senior level  
  • A team leader, able to inspire and influence others   
  • Excellent project management skills with the ability to prioritise work   
  • A professional appearance and the social skills necessary to deal with a range of clients along with the self-confidence and stature to represent the W Series at a senior level  
  • Staff management skills and the ability to motivate and develop individuals and team working  
  • A good listener, able to respond to results and consumer research
