Manufacturing Engineer - Welding

The Role

The successful candidate will have extensive theoretical and hands-on experience in all facets of various welding technologies and related equipment, as well as experience managing new product introductions, equipment projects (new installations) and process optimization, upgrades & modifications. Experience with steel, aluminum and hybrid welding are desired.

 

Responsibilities

  • Responsibility for designing/selecting welding systems, implementation, commissioning and programming of such.
  • Responsible for weld implementation for future model launches and process development.
  • Responsible for continues process optimization in current production environment
  • Lead and assist production in all quality and process related weld topics and issues.
  • Responsible for welding process improvement and novel process development
  • Work with design engineering to select proper welding and joining processes.
  • Support and assist maintenance team in troubleshooting difficult breakdowns and chronic equipment failures.
  • Develop maintenance weld training program and perform the training
  • Project management: both internal maintenance projects, and major contractor projects.
  • Procedures & PMs, develop & maintain proper documentation of: all necessary procedures; periodic maintenance tasks, Process control, etc
  • Spare Parts: select and define required and appropriate spare parts & consumables.

 

Requirements

  • BS in mechanical engineering or welding engineering is preferred. Advanced degrees, Masters or PhD, are highly preferred.
  • Extensive experience with at least one or two of the following welding processes: Resistance spot welding, laser welding, laser brazing, stud welding, arc welding.
  • 2+ years in process monitoring and optimization
  • Experience in additive manufacturing is a plus
  • Experience in welding of aluminum and welding of mild and high strength steels is preferred
  • Demonstrated capability in research and development is preferred
  • Experience in setting up and running weld monitoring systems
  • Proven project management experience.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office suite of programs.
  • Good overall people management skills.
  • Solid communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Proficient in CAD (CATIA is a plus)
  • Basic robotic programming skills
