Managing Editor – Automotive Editorial Department

About the Job.

The Managing Editor will focus his/her efforts on workplace efficiency and making sure trains are running on time within the department. The Managing Editor will collaborate regularly with the Director of Operations and the Director of Content & Strategy to achieve these goals. The Managing Editor will help the department’s trains run on time and provide the team with the resources, check-ins, and know-how for success.

Responsibilities.

  • Copy editing
  • Freelance cultivation and onboarding
  • Working with editors to ensure story deadlines are met
  • Training editorial staff
  • Travel planning for event coverage
  • Assisting with Director of Operations on department procedures and workflow efficiency
  • Managing magazine about us and project vehicle updates
  • Reviewing expense reports
  • Some staff attendance oversight
  • Review deadline and production goals through weekly performance reports

Skills & Experience.

  • Expert Level Skill & Experience (3 Years) in:
    • Managing/working with teams of 5+
    • Project Management
    • Journalism, English, or related background
  • Medium-Level Skill & Experience (1-3 Years) in:
    • WordPress
    • Photoshop
    • Forums/Blogs
  • Some working knowledge of:
  • Facebook/Social Media
  • Photography
  • Automotive
  • Willing to commute or relocate to Temecula, CA
  • Motor oil dripping from veins
  • You are fast-paced, have lots of energy, and are truly willing to put in hard work.
  • Comfortable holding others to deadlines

Success Criteria

Managing Editor is measured on the continual improvement of staff’s production outcomes and deadline efficiency. Success criteria include:

  • Editorial deadlines are being met
  • A strong freelance roster with high caliber individuals that editors utilize
  • A staff that has the know-how, training, and working knowledge to execute their job successfully
  • Trains are running on time
  • Leadership and people skills required to motivate and inspire creative people

Experience and Education Required

  • Bachelor’s degree a plus
  • 3+ years of managing teams in a creative or high pace setting
