Logistics Design Engineer

For the next 6 years as part of McLaren’s Track 22 plan, we are looking to invest £1 billion into Research and Development, leading to the launch of 15 all-new cars or derivatives during this period.

 

Purpose of the role:

We have a fantastic opportunity within the Logistics Engineering Department for a talented Senior Design Engineer to lead the design of bespoke line delivery equipment for both current and future McLaren vehicle projects.

Reporting to the Logistics Engineering Manager – Series Production, you will be responsible for the design of specialist delivery equipment used within the McLaren Production Centre. You will also liaise with suppliers to manage both production and delivery. The successful candidate will have extensive experience of the design process including the creation of specification boards, engineering drawings and visuals. You will also be responsible for creating budget forecasts and reporting spend v’s budget.

 

Principal accountabilities:

  • Creation of bespoke line side equipment designs.
  • Creation of equipment visuals.
  • Logistics Facility layouts.
  • Manage the production and introduction of new equipment.
  • Support the Logistics Engineering team in the achievement of departmental budgets.
  • Lead and motivate a small team of design engineers

 

Knowledge, skills & experience:

  • Experience as Industrial Design or Product Development Engineer
  • Knowledge of sheet metal manufacturing processes.
  • 3D CAD experience is essential, including experience of Catia and SolidWorks.
  • Knowledge of AutoCAD would be an advantage.
  • Ability to create new designs to meet project requirements and also to update and modify existing drawings.
  • Project management skills.
  • A degree in design or engineering would be considered an advantage.
  • Numerate & literate.
  • IT literate and have good organisation skills.
  • Competent in Excel.
