POSITION SUMMARY:

Join a team that is responsible for maintaining the buildings and grounds of the Indianapolis Motor Speedway which plays host to the World's Largest Single-Day Sporting Event, the Indianapolis 500®. This full-time position will expose you to many different projects throughout the facility and offers an unmatched opportunity to be a part of the execution and operations of our events. You will get to experience and learn what is takes to prepare the track (oval and road course) for each event!

SPECIFIC DUTIES: 

  • Field measure and/or site survey before striping occurs.
  • Prep surfaces prior to striping.
  • Ability to layout parking lots, roadways, and track (Oval and Road Course) for markings.
  • Kill or restripe existing layouts.
  • Remove temporary markings with a power/pressure washer.
  • Maintain and operate various striping equipment.
  • Record and track quantities of paint for each project.
  • Perform traffic control, as necessary.
  • Execute striping plan for all marquee events.
  • Other duties as assigned by the Paint Shop Foreman. The Facilities department is responsible for the entirety of the grounds and buildings at IMS. Due to the sometimes-unpredictable nature of being a multi-event facility, all members of the Facilities team may be required to occasionally help with responsibilities outside their normal job description.
  • Clean, prep, prime, protect, sand, scrape, or seal surfaces.
  • Apply paint to multiple surfaces.
  • Alphabetizing and numbering grandstands.
  • Install and remove graphics or signage.
  • Install and remove temporary walls.
  • Track Conversion.

QUALIFICATIONS: 

Supervisory Responsibilities

  • None

Education

  • High school graduate or GED

Skills/Experience

  • Minimum 3 years’ experience in striping
  • Forklift and heavy equipment certifications are preferred, but not required. IMS will provide training.
  • Auto painting experience preferred, but not required.
  • Occasional work from an aerial platform or at heights.

Travel/Work Hours

  • No travel required. Must be able to work overtime as needed.
  • Required to work long hours, evenings, weekends & holidays during event season.

  • The ability to lift 50lbs.
  • Constant bending, kneeling, standing, stooping, and walking.
  • Constant reaching (high and low levels) and repetitive twisting.
  • Pressure involving arms, hands, or wrists.
  • Frequent use of ladders/lifts/scaffolding.
  • Specific vision abilities include distinguishing basic colors and shades.

  • Employee will frequently work outdoors, which requires physical strength and stamina to endure extreme cold, heat, rain, and other inclement conditions.

  • The employee may be exposed to fumes or airborne particles. It is required that the employee wear an IMS supplied respirator.
  • The noise level in the work environment can be loud, due to motorsport events.
