Level I Machinist - Second Shift

Location: Brownsburg, IN (metro Indianapolis)

Title: Level I Machinist Second Shift (approx. 4:30-1:30am)

Summary of Position:

This machinist will be essential in programming and production of aerospace, defense, motorsports and commercial machined components and assemblies. Key operations with this role include the use of CNC Mills and Lathes, power and hand tools, precision tools, and any other required tools and/or equipment by performing the duties below. This position must be able to read prints and programs and follow direction to get them entered into the machines properly. A strong independent worker with a drive to lean and adapt is key.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Build or manufacture to drawing all items to established production quality and quantity as scheduled.
  • Operate conventional and/or CNC equipment, and perform first part inspection to verify part is to specifications with regular and proficient use of precision measuring equipment.
  • Responsible for preventative maintenance and good housekeeping to ensure good quality and continuation of safe operation. Maintaining tools and equipment and keep supplies and parts in good working order with a clean work area, machines, tools and equipment.
  • Assists in manufacturing of prototype equipment. Install machined parts in mechanisms, machines and equipment and tests operation of unit to ensure functionally and performing.
  • Confer with supervisors, engineering, production personnel or other team members to resolve manufacturing problems. Report shortages of parts, tools, and materials in a timely manner.
  • Operate power equipment and material handling equipment (forklifts, cranes, etc.)
  • Must have personal hand tools to perform tasks effectively.
  • Ability to build jigs and fixtures as well as use mainframe computer.
  • Develop specifications from general description and draw sketch of part or product to be manufactured.
  • Ability to work with metric and inch system.
  • Responsible for submitting daily time accounting and payroll information or other paperwork requested.

Position Requirements

  • Capable of understanding basic drawings and bill of material as well as document changes as needed on routings, drawings and bill of material.
  • Basic knowledge of metallurgy for calculating and setting controls to regulate machining factors such as speeds, feeds, coolant selection and depth and angle of cut or enter commands to retrieve, input or edit CNC media.
  • Ability to stand for prolonged periods, use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools or controls. Frequently walking and occasionally required to sit and reach with hands and arms
  • Ability to regularly lift and/or move up to fifty (50) pounds. Frequently lift and/or move up to one hundred (100) pounds, and occasionally lift and/or move more than one hundred (100) pounds.
  • Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts and draw valid conclusions. Also, to apply commonsense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.

Education and/or Experience

Minimum requirements: High School or GED, and some experience job related and/or equivalent to fulfill the requirements of Level I.
