Lead Fabricator/Welder

Cognito has an immediate career opportunity for a Lead Fabricator.

The Lead Fabricator (LF) will be part of a team of production MIG welders, TIG welders, and machinists.

The LF will be assigned special projects to support the Cognito product line of aftermarket suspension and chassis parts and projects which include:

  • Building fixtures, jigs, first articles, prototypes, racks, etc.
  • Building inspection fixtures
  • Quality control checks on production components of other workers
  • Fixture inspection and replacement
  • Troubleshooting
  • Assisting product development
  • Repair or work on special vehicles

When in between special projects, LF will perform production operations such as:

  • MIG and TIG welding
  • Tube bending
  • Machining (Manual mill, lathe, drill press)
  • Sawing, cutting, grinding, fitting, flame cutting, plasma cutting
  • Cleanup
  • Organization
  • Documentation

Expectations:

  • Follow engineering drawings, designs, and processes and help revise them if needed for proper documentation of product.
  • Able to fabricate and refine items in a precise manner and to the required outcome.
  • Identify and report defective processes, product, fixtures, equipment, etc.
  • Exhibit safe working practices and maintain a clean and organized work area.
  • Able to manage a project, look ahead, adjust and advise accordingly.
  • Flexible in duties, and willing to perform anything outside of the normal job description when needed.
  • Have a positive attitude; teach and lead when needed, take initiative to get things done.
  • Continually provide value.
  • Be responsible, thorough, forthcoming, honest, have integrity, teamwork, ownership in position.

Skill Requirements:

  • MIG and/or TIG welding proficiency with all metal types and shapes, including carbon steel, chromoly, aluminum and stainless steel; tubing, bar, plate and sheet.
  • Machine set up and performing basic maintenance on welding equipment.
  • Previous experience in fabrication, prototyping and production manufacturing.
  • Adept at using conventional metal shop and fabrication tools, safety equipment and procedures.
  • Familiarity with reading, interpreting and following basic drawings, schematics or blueprints.
  • Good written and verbal communication.

Welding test will be given onsite as part of your interview.

Education and Experience:

  • High school diploma or G.E.D. Certificate, vocational training, and/or on-the-job experience equivalency.

Position Type and Expected Hours of Work:

  • Full-time position, 40 hours per week, Monday through Friday
