Lead EV Safety Development Engineer

Duties / Responsibilities (Including Objectives of the role):

As Lead EV Safety Development Engineer you will plan and deliver all necessary technical guidance and authority to achieve high standards of High Voltage electrical safety, focusing on four main areas:

  1. General EV Safety Precautions
  2. Authorisation and Training
  3. Safety Process and Documents 
  4. Work on Energy Systems

Main Responsibilities:

  • Demonstrate a strong understanding of Electric Vehicle system safety along with a Quality focused approach
  • Contribute to the management and delivery of the Propulsion EV safety strategy
  • Support the wider team to meet project deliverables consistently across all business sectors
  • Ensure a data driven approach, promoting compliance to appropriate safety regulation
  • Develop, document and file EV safety standards
  • Develop, document and file business function specific EV safety Policy
  • Develop EV safety framework training curriculum
  • Develop training course material for Classroom and e-learning delivery platforms
  • Support in the development of system safety equipment, and EV Specific PPE
  • Document official EV emergency protocol across ALL functions
  • Satisfy all EV safety documentation printing requirements
  • Resolve project actions and requirement deliverables
  • Maintain transparent plan performance status

Qualifications and Experience (Essential & Desirable criteria)

Essential:  

  • Qualified in a training or curriculum development discipline with strong practical experience in an engineering/ automotive environment
  • Experience of automotive OEM Service sector and development of service process
  • Extensive knowledge of EV safety concepts and Safety Regulations
  • Experience on and around BEV and PHEV system solutions and technologies
  • Experience with official document creation – Standards and Requirements
  • Strong people skills with the ability to work individually and cross functional teams
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills
  • Experience of meeting deadlines
  • Proficient with MS Word & PowerPoint

Desirable:

  • Minimum of 3 year of experience within an engineering discipline
  • Previous experience within Vehicle Engineering, Powertrain or Electrical
  • Project management experience
  • Knowledge of automotive Power Supply Systems
  • Experience of automotive diagnostic systems
  • A working knowledge HSE regulation and Market of Sale legislation
  • Experience of interacting with technicians within retailer network
  • Experience of communicating on a global scale
  • Experience of complex high voltage systems and safe operating conditions
  • Experience of training delivery
       

    Other information

    This role will lead the activities associated with the development Lotus Cars EV Safety Framework within the Propulsion department of Group Lotus.  The role will report into the Propulsion HV Systems Lead Engineer and will also require work and communication cross all sectors of the UK operations. 

    The defined position will work across two main sites of Lotus Cars to apply an all-encompassing approach with no compromise to safety, setting out consistent and intuitive safety protocols across all business sectors:

    • HV Test Cells (Facilities)
    • Production (Manufacturing)
    • Aftersales Operation
    • Retailers / Importers
    • Warehouse Operatives All other Business Personnel
