Role Overview

Optical Quality refers to the quality that manufacturing will see during the build-out of the vehicle exterior. a dealership, the customer would first take a glance around the car, then open the door, sit on the seat, and check the quality of the details. Our PQ and design engineers are collaborating on techniques to enhance both the quality feel and the craftsmanship perceivable through these senses. The OQ Lead Engineer will report directly to the Sr. Manager Dimensional Integrity and be the single point of contact for the vehicle exterior quality. The role objective is to clearly define the quality enhancement targets and the techniques to be employed in achieving them. The aim of this is to gain a thorough understanding to become capable of providing customers with products possessing world class quality. Responsibilities include, Understand and communicate customer sensitivity via meticulous research of what potential buyers find to be attractive to deliver competitive products to customers, Delivery of high quality automobiles by paying close attention to the details and to their treatments and Incorporating attractive Perceived Quality items ahead of competitors based on forecast of future technological, competitor and market trends.

Key Requirements

  • BSc/MSc degree in a related discipline (i.e. OQ, Craftmanship, Ergonomics, Quality Engineering)
  • >7 years’ experience in automotive product development related field
  • Sound understanding of OQ, Dimensional Integrity and design principles
  • Clear, concise communicator with excellent presentation skills
  • Strong negotiation skills with the ability to influence design with a customer focused approach
  • Ability to produce formal documentation and processes to a high standard
  • Self-motivated and able to work unsupervised within the local team and interfacing across business functions 
  • Ability to interpret customer quality data (e.g. JD Power)
  • Statistical analysis, problem solving & root-cause analysis experience
  • Working knowledge of Premium automotive sector, products, and features
  • Experienced in competitor research/benchmarking (physical & web-based)
  • Experience of DFSS (Design for Six Sigma) would be an advantage

  • Must be able to lift 25 lbs. unassisted, bend, stretch, stand for extended periods of time, climb stairs, reach, twist, sit, walk, and/or run.
  •  Must be willing to work overtime and on weekends where needed to meet deadlines and company goals.
