Lead Engineer - Instrument Panel

Duties / Responsibilities (Including Objectives of the role):

Working within our Interiors team, you’ll focus on the design and delivery of innovative solutions for our Instrument Panel & Console working on current engineering and future Lotus Cars products.

First and always for the Drivers, Lotus has a rich history in developing thoroughbred High-Performance Sports Cars. We’re taking this DNA with us in to the future with a new line of products and strong investment from the Geely Group. This is an exciting time to join at the ground level of a Sports Car brand with 70 years of history, looking to drive itself in to the future.

The key focus of this role will be the technical ownership of subsystems relating the IP & Consol. On a day to day basis you can expect to:

  • Support the Principal Engineer and Chief Engineer to deliver technical solutions to project teams within the required cost, quality and time targets.
  • Take design and performance ownership in providing optimised component designs within the Instrument panel components/systems
  • Support studio activities by providing regular engineering feasibility status on design surfaces
  • Give technical direction for CAD engineers to create CAD models, component drawings, assembly drawings, exploded views, installation drawings and data packs.
  • Give technical direction for suppliers to develop components from concept to production ready tooling

You will take ownership of FMEA’s and DVP’s to support project requirements in accordance with quality acceptance standards, applying DFA & DFM techniques to design processes.

You will also manage CAD data where necessary and populate and release components through Teamcentre EBOM.

This position gives you the chance to optimise current designs and apply these technologies to new products. The exposure to current model projects, manufacturing and full vehicle performance could allow progression into either Vehicle Specialist roles or Management positions within Engineering and Manufacturing.

About you:

Degree educated in Mechanical or Automotive Engineering, you’ll bring with you proven experience in product design for interior trim components. You’ll need a strong understanding of manufacturing processes relative to Interiors components, and a sound knowledge of Vehicle Performance standards.

You’ll need to be confident on CATIA v5 or above, having strong experience within a design/release capacity within an Automotive OEM or Tier 1 supplier.

We’re looking for someone who is enthusiastic and passionate about what we do. You’ll need to be a strong communicator, experienced working with team members who may be based in other locations. You’ll need to work cross-functionally, being able to challenge where necessary using your technical expertise.
