Lead Engineer - Aerodynamics

Duties / Responsibilities (Including Objectives of the role)
To provide expert aerodynamics lead to vehicle projects including Lotus and 3rd party client projects and ensure aerodynamic targets defined in PDD and VTS documents are met along with effective integration of all vehicle systems requiring airflow management.

This role requires the confidence to challenge the conventional norms of vehicle design and to push for innovative, advanced, aerodynamic solutions which balance the need for exceptional high speed vehicle dynamics with the ever increasing demand for efficiency and refinement. It will require advanced aerodynamic concepts to be "designed in" at the initial concept design stage, so working closely with the designers and concept engineers right from the initiation of a project and seeing the development through to validation and production.

The aerodynamic targets will be demanding and the role will require an expert level of both intuitive experience and evidence based analysis capability. You will be directing and participating in both CFD and physical testing both in the wind tunnel and on the test track.

You will need to have an understanding of the relevance and importance of the different aerodynamic parameters on the overall dynamic characteristics of a vehicle and be able to communicate and articulate the importance of certain vehicle features to the design community.

Qualifications and Experience (Essential & Desirable criteria)

Essential Criteria

  • BSc Degree Level
  • Experience in aerodynamic development of vehicle designs from first principles. Practical experience of CFD analysis and / or wind tunnel development testing and the interpretation of CFD results.
  • Recognition of good aerodynamic design practise. Ability to lead the design team in efficient development of aerodynamic design.
  • Direct experience in vehicle design and / or motorsport.
  • Must demonstrate good leadership qualities.
