Insulation/Heatshield Technician

Role Summary:

The Heatshield / Insulation Technician will be part of a skilled team of technicians that manufacture insulated exhaust / heatshield assemblies on time and to the required quality standards to satisfy SST customers, predominantly within the motorsport/automotive sector.

Working within the SST “insulation” department, you will be required to assemble insulation material around exhausts/heatshields, cover with thin sheet metal work, and then spot weld in place. This will require the use of mostly hand tools for cutting and assembling insulation material and sheet metalwork, and a spot welder for fabricating the sheet metal work in place. This requires a level of dexterity, intricate assembly work and attention to detail.

Responsibilities:

  • Cutting, dressing and trimming thin sheet metalwork to use in exhaust / heatshield assemblies.
  • Cutting, trimming and wrapping of insulation material into exhaust / heatshield assemblies.
  • Spot welding of sheet metalwork components, sub-assemblies and final assemblies to complete heatshield / exhaust assemblies.
  • Use of fixtures, jigs and tools to successfully produce work to required specification.
  • Provide suggestions (when required) to assist in the development of processes, fixtures and jigs to aid production.
  • Completion of defined tasks using the required standard processes; producing quality work within specification.
  • To meet and exceed production output targets.
  • Identify and report defective / out of specification components and assembly issues.
  • Work in a safe manner protecting the H+S of yourself and colleagues.
  • Keep working area clean and tidy and clear of all obstructions and hazards, adopting “5S” principles.
