POSITION SUMMARY:

The Manager of Community Outreach and Fan Engagement is primarily responsible for growing the positive impact of IMS/INDYCAR in the Central Indiana community, developing and executing experiential marketing activations, and building diverse audiences for the “Racing Capital of the World” and the INDYCAR Series. The manager will also coordinate charitable program relationships and donation request fulfillment for Penske Entertainment.

The role will report to and work closely with the Sr. Director of Marketing to build the overall fan development and engagement plan and collaborate with the Chief Diversity Officer on outreach to diverse communities. This individual will manage the seasonal field team and coordinate the internal creative and marketing resources needed to execute community programs and initiatives.

SPECIFIC DUTIES:

  • Develop outreach centered around diversifying motorsports’ presence and impact in the Central Indiana community
  • Collaborate on the strategic development and execution of programs to build the next generation of IMS and INDYCAR fans (Kids’ Club, INDYCAR Nation, school programs)
  • Serve as the brand manager for IMS’ community profile, ensuring that IMS is perceived as a good neighbor and contributor to the Central Indiana community
  • Work with Penske Entertainment Chief Diversity Officer to identify minority community organizations to partner with through identifying and executing event and program opportunities at IMS and INDYCAR
  • Manage relationships, marketing initiatives and activations with community partners and civic organizations that elevate awareness of events and IMS and the INDYCAR Series
  • Plan and coordinate field team activations and mascot appearances at events promoting IMS and INDYCAR
  • Manage IMS’ experiential activations in-venue, such as the Midway Activation Zone
  • Evaluate and manage necessary tools needed to execute community marketing plans; refine plans in real time to maximize resource investment and plan objectives
  • Working with executive leadership team track, coordinate and execute all charitable donations requests for funding, events and programs
  • Develop and manage budgets needed to facilitate assigned responsibilities; partner with other Marketing-Communications team members to maximize budget spend across integrated plan
  • When requested, travel to INDYCAR Series races and other off-site shoots, appearances and events as defined by Marketing leadership
  • Support other IMS Marketing assignments as assigned by supervisor

QUALIFICATIONS:

Supervisory Responsibilities

  • This position will oversee seasonal, part-time employees on the IMS Field Team.

Education

  • Bachelor’s degree from a four-year college/university or MBA program

Skills/Experience

  • 3-5 years of experience in event management, community relations/outreach or sports marketing
  • Active involvement in community-based events and organizations
  • Proven track record to manage community-based initiatives
  • Outstanding project management skills and attention to detail
  • Bilingual – English / Spanish preferred, but not required
  • Passionate about Indiana, Indianapolis, INDYCAR and the Indianapolis Motor Speedway
  • Possess strong interpersonal, communication, analytical, written, and verbal skills
  • Innovative thinker and self-starter with perseverance to lead teams to success
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office software

Travel/Work Hours

  • General office hours are Monday through Friday 8:30am to 5:30pm
  • Must be available to work event weekends and overtime

  • Occasional work outdoors requires physical strength and stamina to endure extreme heat, cold, rain and other conditions.
