Job Description

The HR Intern will combine their education with practical HR experience in core HR areas such as employee relations, compensation, recruitment, talent management and diversity. Assignments may include projects requiring research & trend analysis, benchmarking, assisting in the development of communication packages, conducting research on emerging HR issues, or project management, problem analysis and solution implementation related to HR initiatives.

Basic Description:

Provides HR support for the Component's Division. Supports the HR Director on Division initiatives. Works directly with Division Management and employees. Works and contributes to substantial projects aimed at driving the Division's performance to full potential. This position provides input to the design of HR programs with a heavy emphasis on implementation, including: employee relations, recruitment and selection, employee training and development, talent management, succession planning, employee involvement, compensation programs and performance management. As the incumbent better learns the business operations, contribution at a strategic level will occur.

Essential Functions:

  • Partners with Division HR Director on all aspects of HR from administrative, legal, change management, and strategic work.
  • Supports Division goals by working directly with managers on items such as policy administration, employee relations, training, etc.
  • Conduct investigations and implement appropriate action based on policy, precedent and collaboration with management team.
  • Works with leadership to drive the talent management process within the division. Supports talent acquisition, screening/interviewing candidates, and onboarding new hires.
  • Coordinates and attends campus events and manufacturing events with the rest of the HR team to ensure efficient hiring practices across all Miller Divisions.
  • Provides data and input to the Annual and Long-Range Business Plans.
  • Facilitates the performance and compensation management process within the division. Researches competitive wages for at risk employees/positions to ensure competitiveness and monitor internal equity.
  • Assembles the Affirmative Action Plan for the Division.
  • Maintains HRIS records, personnel files and other required documentation.
  • Conducts required training and team building (new hire orientation, harassment awareness, etc.).
  • Advances the company’s diversity and inclusion initiatives in all phases of employment. Maintains records for all hiring activity and keeps track of good faith efforts for the Division.
  • Work with Division management to advance the quality of the on boarding process as well as coordinating Full Potential initiatives such as 80/20 business process excellence and monitoring talent (e.g. development plans, 9 box tool etc).
  • Main point of contact for GPS and Youth Apprenticeship Programs to ensure a pipeline for skilled labor roles.
  • Manage FMLA/Leave of Absence tracking and approval for Division.
  • Collaborates with management to increase the effectiveness of our employee involvement programs and to drive change within the Division.
  • Provide thoughts and input regarding culture by using examples which substantiate where improvements are needed as well as where we are doing well. Generate ideas and successfully implement to ensure the Division culture is viewed as an excellent place to work.
  • Work with entire Appleton HR team on relevant company-wide initiatives as required. Volunteer to assist with affinity groups such as IWN, YPN, intern outings, etc.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications: 

  • Current College Junior/Senior level pursuing Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Organizational Development or related field
  • OR enrolled in an Associates program in Human Resources.
  • Excellent verbal, written and interpersonal skills
  • Basic knowledge of current laws and pending legislation in HR area
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office
  • Extensive PC, Internet, and social media skills
  • Maintains confidentiality; acts ethically and with integrity
  • Problem solving skills in dealing with HR issues
  • Organized and works well under pressure

Manages multiple tasks, prioritize work, and work in a fast-paced, detail oriented environment with minimal direction
